Soft gun & WW tracers. Putting the myth to rest.
« on: February 07, 2009, 05:54:41 AM »
Nothing beats a field gun with tracers off when they think they've deacked a field its hilarious.  :rock

I turn off the tracers in manned ack and in WWs. Why let them know you're there and in which direction you are shooting.

I dont think I have ever seen tracer from my ack gun.

This used to work back in the day, but unfortunately it does no longer.  The reason for the confusion is that if you have your tracers turned off you will not see them, but everyone else will.

Did a quick test tonight, and if anyone is interested here's the film.

From my POV with my tracers turned off.

From Grizz's POV.

When was the change made?  If it was more than a year ago then your findings are both informative and funny. :)

Anyway to get 100% confirmation of this.
I bring this up because one of my squad mates cant see my tracers, so is there a setting on the front end, that needs to be enabled/disabled? ie disable weapon effects?
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Very interesting.  Any chance you guys could post a pair of films like mine and Grizz's? This has me boggled a bit.

Turning off tracers only works for planes, but not bombers (gunners position).

If I disable tracers, tracers should be disabled. Or I should see tracers from planes that have tracers disabled. Trying to kill tanks (or at least track them) with a field gun doesn't need a Shoot Here sign to help the tanks HE rounds find you.

i dont got enough perkies as it is and i like upen my lancs to kill 1 dang t 34 or wirble its fun droping 42 bombs

Maybe someone could get films from different countries.  I was under the impression that friendly's can see your man ack tracers, but enemy's could not.  It definatly doesn't work with WW's though.
