Skuzzy Help : New System keeps locking Up.
« on: February 12, 2009, 05:33:52 PM »
Hello,
This is the problem: Video lock up in game.

System:
XP Pro srv pack 3 New Install (Yes I have done the fixes you recomended for AMD dual core)
AMD 64 dual Core 6000+ 3.1 Ghz
2 Gig Ram
9800 GTX+ Vid Card
750 Watt PC Power & Cooling 60 amps on 12volt Rail
CPU temp between 109 and 120 F

I have slowed down sound acceleration
Installed Newest drivers for Vid Card

I know you want to see DXDIAX readout...How much of it do I post? al text too large for post..

I have also renamed my sound folder(due to me using a mix of custom sounds) using stock sounds.

I have run a MB Ram test all good there....

Seems to be getting good cooling in case...

Game settings...1024  Preload skins....(figured This machine will handle it)
Frame rates at 60
widescreen
aplication controlled on AA.
All stock mem freq.

Either email it to him or post it in chunks but I think the first third is mostly what is needed.

Win 98 compatibility mode would probably fix it until you have another answer.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

What monitor do you have? Im not sure that it is causing the problem but you need to step your resolution down to native mode if it isnt already it looks like it might be 1600x1200 and you are using 1680x1050?

Finally!  Someone in the same boat as I am.   Up until last week, I was rock steady, no disco's.  Now, out of the blue, the game locks my system up so badly that alt f4, alt tab, etc has no effect.  Have to shut down and reboot.

I have not changed anything (no new drivers, no new sound card, etc).   Kamori, do you have the same issue of getting out of lock up?

I'm not all that savvy on comp stuff, so NO CLUE how to list all the info on my system.....just glad I'm not the only one!

One other thing, twice when video froze,  I received  a Host notice stating  "Host stopped receiving UDP, switched to TCP" message.

I did just recently have to reinstall mcafee...just fyi.

It may be heat or voltage related.  First open the case and make absolutely certain that the CPU fan is properly seated (tight and in place) and the power connector is plugged into the motherboard (mine came loose once and I was having a similar experience).

While you're in there verify that your video card is properly seated and that the power supplies are plugged in tight (I think you have two with the card you have).

Then, if it's a new system that you built, go into the BIOS and make sure your RAM timings and voltages are set to manufacturer's specs.  For instance I have Kingston HyperX DDR2 800 which runs at 4-4-4-12 timings at 2.0 volts but on install it defaults to DDR2 667 @ 5-5-5-15 @ 1.85 volts.

While you are in the BIOS check to be sure that vcore (CPU core voltage) is set to auto (assuming you haven't overclocked anything).

Finally try downloading and installing RivaTuner, then use it to turn up your video card's fan speed.  I have mine set to 70% constant which is a good balance between cooling and noise.

Let us know if any of these things help.

Let me guess, you get a screen that appears as if you're looking into the heavens at night. Have you installed all the patches for amd? Look at the link.

This is why we advised intel cpus.

Additionally you have on board sound. Not good and you have it with custom sounds. Double not good.

DO NOT use custom sounds with an onboard sound chip.

You will need to install the dual-core optmizer patch for the AMD CPU, and it may not solve the issues.  If not, then set the game to run in "Windows 98/Windows ME" compatibility mode.  There is a bug in the AMD dual-core CPU's we happen to hit.

You have a video card which requires quite a bit of power.  What make/brand/size power supply does the computer have?  A cheap power supply will go a long way to causing a lot of problems with these high end parts.

Hello,
This is the problem: Video lock up in game.

System:

XP Pro srv pack 3 New Install

(Yes I have done the fixes you recomended for AMD dual core This includes the patch 4 dual core)

AMD 64 dual Core 6000+ 3.1 Ghz
2 Gig Ram
9800 GTX+ Vid Card

750 Watt PC Power & Cooling 60 amps on 12volt Rail

I have slowed down sound acceleration

I have also renamed my sound folder(due to me using a mix of custom sounds) using stock sounds.

I have run a MB Ram test all good there....

Seems to be getting good cooling in case...

Game settings...1024  Preload skins....(figured This machine will handle it)
Frame rates at 60
widescreen
aplication controlled on AA.
All stock mem freq.

SKUZZY: Thank you for responding....

In my first post I did answer all theses questions...Please re-read above

I just ran last night in compatability mode and for 1 hour no issues.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM XP and COMPATABILITY MODE?

When you put it into compatibility mode you force it to run on only one CPU. There is a bug in the AMD CPU's that the Aces High program hits.

Ok a Bug ... That only Aces High hits..That seems a bit odd to me. Thank you for explaining.

FYI. I have another machine with onboard sound and although its a single socket A board. I RAN ONBOARD SOUND FOR 3 Years..Humm  (Nvidia Soundstorm)

Well I missed it. Hey I was trying to help. There was a bunch there.  However, did you read all the way through about the registry changes?  I had an AMD machine just like yours and got it to working okay. After the patches I also had to play with the registry a little.
