Whats with the aircraft cockpits??
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:50:52 PM »
Although i do love this game it needs a serious upgrade on graphics, mainly the aircraft cockpits.  I'm not saying all of them are bad, but in my opinion they need to be just a little more detailed with the backround images,,,,for example throttles, stick, radio buttons, lights, all other types of buttons needed in an aircraft.......and maybe the ammo gauges, to me those just stuck out and made the planes way to cartoonish,,,could possibly make it smaller and out of the way with an older look to them.  Besides fighters in WWII lacked ammo gauges, it was all guessed by how long their bursts were.. So saying that about the ammo you could possibly just put an ammo gauge on the map, that way its more realistic, and for those who need the ammo gauge will have it and can look at it on their map.

This game has been around since 1999. I think that some of the models might actually be from that original 1999 version, lol. HTC has been good about updating most of the aircraft's graphic models, but many are still extremely old and are in desperate need of update... those will be gotten to eventually.
As far as ammo gauges go, I would like to see them gone in planes that didn't have them, but that's a gameplay feature.

,,,could possibly make it smaller and out of the way with an older look to them.

Instruments easily readable at a glance on a computer monitor are more important than a photo-realistic representation. I think AHII has done a good job with its updated cockpits of conveying the general look of the actual plane without making it necessary to zoom in and move your POV around with arrows just to read a bloody instrument.

Besides fighters in WWII lacked ammo gauges, it was all guessed by how long their bursts were..

Off the top of my head, 190s and 110s both had ammo indicators.

109's did, too. What act as the trim indicators in the AH models (beside the 110, since it has an older cockpit, of course) were the ammo indicators.

Hell, 109F is worse, got the G-meter behind the gun-sight.

Yep, frankly I don't see much use for the G-meter air combat-wise. It is interesting at times definately. Would be even more interestinng with a tell-tale hand on it! Would be fun to check the highest peak of Gs after combat when rtb'ing. :aok

HTC has never given us historically correct cockpits, and it's been that way since before they were HTC (Warbirds).  They experimented with metric guages for German/Japanese aircraft in their previous sim, but ultimately Hitech thinks it's too confusing to have to switch back and forth depending on what you fly.

More particularly, he thinks the time it takes for the majority of his customers to calculate what 654m of altitude is in feet is less realistic than just being able to glance at the altimeter and know his altitude.

Unloading to 0 G whenever possible to maximize acceleration/minimize deceleration, improve roll rate, avoid stalls.

Moderating your Gs in maneuvers whenever possible to conserve energy. You only start to see blackout at 5 or a little past I think, huge difference between the E bleed during a 5G pull and a 3G pull.

I actually agree with BnZ here 110%, at least in the G-14 when I usually need to see the ATA I can afford to mess around with my camera angles.

Babel effect too.

O.o  I had nothing to do with this!
[/endsarcasm]

I do metric and "standard" calculations/sizeing at work all day, back n' forth.  Honestly our country should just do things like the rest of this world and save me the headache (and hey, being able to work faster and make more money is good too).  I don't care which system would become the standard, just as long as there was a single standard across the board/planet.  I suspect HTC is sticking with a standard in the game for the same reasons I wish the whole world would choose a standard system of measurements.
