Make the DA a Dueling Arena
« on: February 23, 2009, 09:06:15 AM »
Ok, as to not hijack the thread asking to disable kill messages in the DA (by the way... +10).

How about instead of limiting the planes to EW planes, just get rid of all the cannon-laden planes; or alter the ammo loadout to only have MG ammo (not even carry .50cal).  I'm talking about having to shoot someone with .303 or 7mm ammo.  Then, you actually have to fly well to kill someone.

You would see better fights that last longer when you can't HO someone with four 20mm cannons or six .50cal guns.

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I don't think limiting planes is the answer.

I think limiting ord might help.
I think squadrons should be disabled.
I think anything that encourages those who hang there to continue to hang there, rather than learning to sink or swim in the mains should be turned off, or adjusted.

That particular pool is in need of chlorine.

However, that being said, its been my observation over the years that HTC tends to be very slow to make changes in that arena. Not sure why, doesn't seem to matter how many ask for it. Only when the problem starts costing them too much in terms of time spent sorting out the problems do they seem to be willing to make a change.

HT, pyro, skuzzy, please log into the DA as a shade for half an hour.
Listen to what your actually growing in there.

+1 on this post.

I spend a very limited amount of the in the DA, usually when the MA is quiet will I head into the Furball lake. Once I logged in there to see no one in a 50cal-only bird. I was in my 109F and I counted more Tempests F4U-4's, Spit16s, and LA7's than I've ever seen in one bundle. All of them were dropping down from 12K to pick guys coming off the runway.

Yeah, but it's a perk plane. Crap, just re-read what I posted. Sorry, forgot to add in exception of perkies.

Disagree, and here is why --

My squad and at least two others that I know of like to use the DA for training.  Training in the TA is fine, but with no lethality it is just not the same.  The MAs are a poor substitute for this kind of training because you will always be interrupted (by either friend or foe) and the accusations of spying/squad/shade killing are annoying and a hassle we'd just as soon avoid.

Just this past weekend we had some GV training, after which a couple squaddies had WW practice while a few others of us were practicing dive bombing/avoiding WW fire.  With the changes you are suggesting, this would not have happened.

While this is not the true purpose of the DA, absent another place where we could do this, I would ask that the DA be left the way it is.

It IS a good place to get quick immersion into a new plane, or to practice gunnery (OR to get ho'd by several Tempest/F4u4's simultaneously)

I read Ghosth's post as wanting ordinance available from some fields, but not all.  If you still had a place to practice what you want to practice, it would remove most of your objections, no?

It really doesn't matter if you can all join a squad in there to do what you're doing, anyway.

First part, absolutely.  I read it as "remove ord", but you are right, that is not what he said.

And the second, I suppose is true.  Just easier to do things on squad vox/text, although choosing a channel over 200 works just as well.

I don't think squads should be disabled because then you can't cross reference your squaddies with the .SR command through different arenas.  Get rid of Kill Messages on lands though.  I don't know who is worse, the guy landing the kills in the DA or the guy WTGing him in the DA... :huh

E25280 never intended that all ords should be removed from the whole map.

In the TA you won't find a perk plane available inside of 50 miles of A1 for very good reasons.

Same thing should be true in the DA. No perk planes, no ords anywhere close to furball lake.
And yes like the TA you should have 30k mountains to keep whats outside of that area outside.

I started in the DA and it has its place even cherry picker lake . I don't know how to cure it but I would like to see you have to spend perks in the DA but not be able to earn them there . Cherry picker lake isolated and you have to spend perkies to get perked rides . Make all planes available . If you want that temp or f4u4 you would have to go to mains to earn perks . Griefers are an even bigger problem . Try going in there to spar with a buddy(s) when its busy watch certain morons try to jump into fight . Disregard the rules you agree on . Most are very low skill who want to come in and ho and pick and do all the crap that annoys people . The sad thing is they would be welcome and learn a lot if they weren't being complete a**holes . I wouldn't trade my times with Vudak Scotch Batfink and many others for the world . I would like to see people like killerg be forced to accept at least a minimal code of conduct . However they know that they can do as they please and face no consequences at all . Unbalanced sides are another problem . I wonder if an eny system there would work as well ? Tonight I upped a 38L trying to work on my new pedals . At one point I had 7 enemy against me . Things balanced somewhat when 1 more guy on my side showed up . I wonder how long people would fly numbers like that if they had to fly spit I instead of a XVI ? a P-40b instead of a pony ? Some of you guys in charge really need to spend some time in there as a shade . Hitech you started this game because you loved WWII flight sims ,but I don't think you would love what the DA is at all . I have only been around a short time but I have seen the downward slide of a place  I  love .

now the intentions of the OP are good,

However this can be solved by bringing back H2H for subscribers only,  which has been wished for and hopefully Htc will come good on it.

I've never been one to complain about what plane a person's flying.  I was against ENY restrictions, even though when ENY was put into effect, I was on the outnumbered country.  I'm usually the guy defending Spit XVI and La-7 pilots in threads, and am all for keeing those planes perk-free.  I'm also perfectly fine with keeping perk planes available free of charge in the furball area.

Yes, it gets bland fighting Tempests and Spit16's, and C-Hogs all day (really not seeing too many -4's comparatively), but it is also nice having a place where you can see what a -4 can really do.  I've been known to up one and try to push her to the edge in there, and would like to continue having that opportunity.  Then again, I doubt very highly any of you who like a good fight would complain if you ran into me in one.

Basically, furball lake is what it is: A kiddie pool.  I don't really know that there's anything HTC could do besides either shut it down, or write it off as a forgotten corner.  I think getting too involved in that spot might cause them too many headaches.

I'd be ok with that, if it weren't for the fact that the DA is my favorite arena.  I don't want to see it forgotten.  Still, I don't want to see other people lose their concept of fun in there, so everything has to be balanced.

What I would really like, would be just a few tools at my disposal to increase my fun in there:

1.  I'd like to be able to have some way to get a group of people together on the same side, and shoot each other down, either with a killshooter-off option for squads, private duel mode, or something of that nature.

2.  I'd like to be able to have some way of protecting my quality time.  Whether that be when I'm working with someone who wants to learn, or in a group just messing around.  If someone is being disruptive, I should be able to do something about it.

Maybe have a regionalized, sector-by-sector, CM status?  There could be certain sectors (aka semi-private fields, not furball lake) where you could "rent" CM status.  You would only have power over the two fields in that sector, and could only be able to ".ef" someone while they're in that sector, or disable them from taking off in that sector.

I'm just throwing ideas out.  The bottom line is I'd be very happy if I had easier ways to tweak other areas of the DA into something I'd enjoy more, and I think this can be done without impeding on the fun of those who enjoy the current furball lake.
