An Easier Way to Squelch
« on: February 23, 2009, 02:14:13 PM »
We've all seen it. Some guy's incessantly spamming the country channel with useless drivel like this:

miniknob1234: I'm climbing
miniknob1234: turning left
miniknob1234: going to bomb Axx
miniknob1234: look out!
miniknob1234: Kenny, we're gonna need more gunners!!!
miniknob1234: spit behind us!!!
miniknob1234: damn, he got us!!
miniknob1234: ahhhrrggg....
miniknob1234: taking off again

and on and on ad nauseum....

Sure, you can squelch this guy, but what if you're a little too busy to type out:

.squelch miniknob1234 (and if you type like me, you'll screw it up anyway  ;) )

So, why can't we have a single key which allows us to squelch the last message poster, followed by a verification Y or N?

Do you wish to squelch miniknob1234:  Y or N?

If you're too slow and select a later message poster, then just hit "N" and wait for our Hero to spout off again. (or just type it out the way we do now)

What do you guys think?

If I were in a situation where I was too busy to type, the last place my eyes would be is on the text buffer.

Maybe a different key to squelch Range channel.

how about along term solution... like a tutorial people have to go through before they can play online...

we're pretty rude in general to new players, I sometimes take the time to teach them the radio, no one really helped me learn it, so i try to break the cycle and get them off on the right foot so they don't think we're all jerks (not calling anyone in particular a jerk, we just all know we've shunned the newbs before)

I agree CAV that a tutorial would be nice.  :aok Perhaps 30 minutes on the basics before you're allowed to connect to the online arenas. I remember how clueless I was about the radios when I started. In fact, adding a section on Game Etiquette to the tutorial would probably return huge dividends in the long run.

Some guys still need squelching though, and I'm not just talking about the n00bs. :D

Yeah right.. the text buffer is right up there with spiders and Nancy Pelosi.

However, when relevant messages scroll off the screen before I can read them because some guy is giving me a blow by blow account of his every action, I'd like a more convenient way of dealing with him. Not a change to the .squelch command we have now, just a handy shortcut.

Open clipboard-->Roster-->Right Click on Name-->Left Click Squelch.

Takes the doubt out of proper spelling.

If you're looking at the text buffer that much, you have the time to squelch someone.

Clipboard, you know, the map thingy.  Whole list of things right under the map.  Column next to E6B.

I can read while maneuvering. Can you type or scroll the roster while maneuvering?
