i7s are pricey when it comes to setting them up,  i been recommending  the Phenom II 940 or the new AM3 Phenom's.
and the only thing you will notices the difference is the money you saved

Not true.

They still do not do the job for any serious video work.  Serious videographers do not care about price.  It is all about performance.  Just FYI.

thats why they are going with the new mac pro with 2-  i7's (8 cores) 16 with Hypertreading

Apple would like to reclaim the market, but they are up against some stiff competition.  Final Cut Pro is simply not making the grade anymore for professional videographers.  Although there are many diehards out there that stick with it.
