My girlfriend found a newspaper comics collection of 
Baby Blues somehow and brought it over for me.  I don't recall it ever being in my local paper, which is a shame because it's pretty good.  I've actually sat down and started reading through a whole collection for the first time since 
Calvin & Hobbes or 
The Far Side.  I have a few friends about to have children and I figure I'll give a collection of these for a present.
I'm curious as to how the authors get to make their Sunday strips as they see fit.  They don't follow the normal panel-line restrictions, but then again I haven't looked into that issue since Watterson, and don't know if paper's allow more leeway now.  I suppose it's possible they just put their Sundays up on a webpage or something, too.
It got me thinking what other comics might be out there...  What are some local favorites of yours?
