Ace Combat 0
« on: February 26, 2009, 09:46:19 PM »
I just completed Ace Combat 0, and I thought it was a great game. The flight mechanics were pretty good. The story was excellent; when Pixy killed PJ, I wanted to chuck my Wiimote through the tv screen, I mean come on! He was gonna propose to his girlfriend! I would have given this a 10/10.

I have been looking for another game, and was wondering if Ace Combat 5 is any good?

Hehe, The Ace Combat series is an excellent one. AC0 was my favorite one of the series  :) . AC5, and definatly AC4 are a must buy if you like the series. AC4 you don't get any wingmen commands, but that is one of the really older ones too! If you do get AC5, I suggest buying some tissues while you're out too, very sad.  :cry

I can't wait for the day the PS3 conquers the 360, and AC6 comes out for the PS3!

Oh, and the best ace of the series has to be Cipher "Demon Lord of the Round Table"  :D :aok

ace combat has the worst storyline ever, but the gameplay makes up for it.

I didn't think so. For me, the best part was the storyline!

Ace Combat kicks arse!  I always would play 2 player, and fly some formation aerobatics with my Cuz, and watch the replays - The Replays make us look way better  :D

Who needs a storyline outside of "The _______ are coming! Your job is to defeat the fighter escorts and take on the bombers. Good Luck!"

I mean that should be enough to make it happen right?!?!

Never going to happen :P

Get a 360, enjoy AC6 and then join the rest of the 360-nation waiting (like a bunch of crack-babbies going through withdrawl) for Tom Clancy's H.A.W.K. (it's comming out for PS3 and the PC too)

Great quote the trailer/demo uses too: "Though I Fly Through The Valley of Death, I Shal Fear No Evil.  For I am At 80,000 Feet and Climbing."

Oh, and if you have a 360 w/ XBOX Live, you can play the H.A.W.K. demo now, it's been out for about a week now.  I hate the cammera view in the free/unlcoked/whatever-they-call-it mode (I'm prob just not used to it, being a new thing) but I like the demo and will probabley get the game.

Which one of the many?  I might agree with you if I knew which, sometimes the story isn't that good.  AC6 I thought had a pretty good story, especialy compared to some of the others from the Ace Combat series.  I do have a slight negative opinion of it though, mainly that the woman/mom from the storyiline in AC6 I thought was a little emo and stuff, found myself going "no duh" and rolling my eyes waiting for it to move on a couple of times, but this was only in the beggining part of the storyline really, when she was being emo about loosing her daughter and husband, yeah she had the right to be all emo but boy did some director/writer milk it.

Agreed. If they can make the gameplay really good to go along with it, you have a winning game. I mean, look at Halo.

Please don't turn this into a 360/PS3 thread...

I love the AC series. Air Combat was my first game. I rented AC2 enough times to buy the video store. It makes me cry how badly the West got shafted by AC3 (seriously, in Japan it ought to rival the Final Fantasy games besides the fact that there's only one AC3). AC4 has the best soundtrack I've ever heard by far. AC5 added great game elements and had a pretty decent story to go along with the usual "Oh $!^*, here come the ____, lets win the war single handedly!" plotline. Ace Combat X is an interesting little sideline, good for sitting in doctors offices or on busses. AC0 is where it kinda started to grind and a little more of the uber-endboss schmaultz started piling up. AC6 has WONDERFUL game aspects with the Allied Support system (though they nerfed the wingman support), but it seriously goes over the top in the cheesy aspect. I do love those three tards in the tank, though. That had me laughing for quite a while.

Ahh yes, that song's great. Honestly though, all but a couple of Ace Combat 4's songs will chill your spine.

Well... personaly I've always wanted a storyline in AC that explained how the duece each side in the game's conflict have the most advanced aircraft at their disposal from all the various first-world nations/militaries/governments.  But it might just be me.

I didn't like AC4's storyline but I enjoyed the gameplay and the music too.  I remember that the music for the game at the time was one of the few games on PS2 that had well-matched music for what you were doing in the game, which probabley made the gameplay twice as enjoyable for me at times.

AC6 is my current and longstanding favorite on my current console (XBox, the other games come along, but they go :P ).  I lost my old profile I had with it in October last year, so atm I have the pleasure of beating the game on super-hard all over again... thankfuly this topic just might convince me to do that this weekend.  I play it online the most of any of my XBox games too, and just last last week I unlocked the decorated ace achievement thingy again online (that's not actually a real XBox achievement  :furious ).

The first time I saw the storyline and those tankers I swore they were going to pirate the golden king ( :furious ), but that quickly got squashed for the best and made me laugh for a while about me thinking they were going to pirate it.  And speaking of cheese, my nickname for the main woman character in the storyline is "the woman who needs some more cheese with her whine".

Glad there are a lot of other AC-dweebs and dweebets here.  Anyone who still plays AC6 on their XBox feel free to add me (Playr4).  I mostly play it very late in the evenings though.

I got extremely bored of AC6 online. Just a lot of spammage, A10s with FAEBs luring you to the deck and nuking you, and F14s tossing Phoenix missiles and ramming hillsides when they run out.

LOL, I have never had an A-10 with a FAEB get me, but that sounds painful.  When I host late night or join a late night session, a lot of guys avoid secondary weapons, we try to avoid the spamfest (so try after midnight).  You still get the noobs or occasional dweeb who will setup a real spamfest, but I personaly favor the FA-18, and in those situations I take the ECMPs, keep a distance and see who will wander away from the furball to come in closer for a bite.   Pheonix's I've only had a problem getting picked with if im slow and turning with a Su dweeb... so I'm asking for the pick.  I've found they're fast missles but horrible at manuvering and one of the easiest to dodge if you have any speed to work with.

To enjoy the online you got to know and get used to dodging and avoidning a lot of missles.  You'll find online is more about dodging incoming than dishing out outgoing missles or anything (especialy if you unlock the decorated ace tag, you might as well paint your plane neon-orange and put a bullseye on it).

But it's not hard to setup/host a game with no secondary weapons and get a good turnout if you have a little patience.
