That was a rather strange evening.
When I logged on at about 8:00pm eastern; bish had A1, and were furballing heavily in defense. A check of the roster indicated we had 21 pilots on.. knits 43 rooks 39.
We had also lost A50 and A52; a knit strike team was working over our city and another was on the way to a53. It was looking very grim..
I launched in a Lanc from A57 heading down toward A50 and got on the Bish buffer and announced my a/c type and destination and my intention of hitting the hangers at A50, and asked for help at 50 and 52. I also addressed the folks at A1 and asked that they come on up north to give us a hand.. explaining that the HQ was at risk and the city was down.
It's a 20 minute flight to A50 from A57, and by the time I got there, there was a bish fighter CAP comming on station, jabo's on the way and an ack buff. Over at 52, the Nighthawks with Rollo helping out went to work. Most of the guys helping to work on these bases came from the fight at A1, and the knits; capitalising on the now light defense at A1, snuck a goon in and grabbed it.. hangers still up.
A few minutes later we re-captured 50, and with another 15 minutes of viscious air and ground fighting around 52 we got that too. A major ah-shit was avoided at our HQ by shutting down the FH's BH's and barracks at those two fields.. we were within 15 minutes of going DAR-OUT and losing 53, with possibly even more bases on our home island going into enemy hands had we lost the dar.
Some of the guys that were fighting with us for 50 and 52 returned to the A1 fight.. now in knit hands, while the rest of us mounted an offensive on the knits at a10; and after that was secured; we went on to the port.
For the rest of the evening; about 10-12 of us continued to hammer the knit northern defenses, striking continiously at their hangers, keeping them defensive as we wore down their assets. It seemed that the knit defense after a few hours simply melted away.. and every time I re-checked the center of the map, the fight at A1 had become larger and larger.
Is it possible that faced with capped fields with few defenders on their home island, their radar out and our strike teams locations unknown that most knits simply said "the hell with it" and went to A1 to furball amongst larger numbers of 'friendlies' and known-location enemys?
In any case; by the time I logged off at midnight, the Nighthawks had tallied 6 fields, and along with the other 'strat minded' bish had shut down virtually all of the knit resources, closed down the radars and basicly made the knit homeland a free-range transit zone for any bish that cared to clobber a factory or facility.
All in all, it was a satisfying evening from my perspective.. when called; the guys we NEEDED came to help at 50 and 52, and without prompting kept the offensive rolling all evening, requiring no screaming or hollering or begging.. the few missions I put up were simple and small requiring only my squad to fill and run in support of NightHawk raids in progress.
The fight at A1 was a boon to us; and yes; no special Bish effort was made to take it down.. we didn't want it down. If we DID take it down; well, then all those now homeless knits would HAVE HAD to fly from the knit home island.. which would have complicated our small tactical strikes immensely.
Yes; we CAN use the MA Furball Mindset to strategic advantage.
