Kind of hard to read your post, but I think what you are talking about is the amount of time they have in the servie, one stripe I think is 5 years.

LOL no this is what im talking about dont try to tell people who been in military longer whats it about and stuff. there are actually gold stripes and silver stripes you get the silver one 6 months after you enter ocs, two bars is captain(bars not strips) this is within first 3 years, after that its all about how where your at and what jobs you take, officer isnt the way to go bud enlisted runs the army officers just do paperwork

This is my sincere reply to your post. You shouldn't emphasise a request of what a man's colar devices are. Doesn't really matter. No one who's been there cares what ensignea adorne's a man's collar when tac-ord is flying,  in the air, on the ground, or under the sea....men know who the leaders are...

Im a active duty sailor. Or saildeer in my current deployment. AEAN is my full title. AE stand for aviation electricians mate. And AN is for airmen (E-3). For those of you who dont know E-3 and below in the Navy your rank is different depending on your MOS, rate, or job depending on what branch your from. Aviation rates start off as Airmen recruit (E-1). Then Airmen Apprentice (E-2). And then Airmen (E-3). The most common name for sailors is Seman. They start off as Seaman recruit, then Seaman Apprentice, then Seamen. The stripes E-3 and below wear are also different. My three stripes are green, Seaman stripes are blue/black, Constructionmen (SeaBees) are blue, and Firemen are red. At E-4 the cool names and colors go away and you become a petty officer 3rd class. The insignia is a crow with one chevron. The chevron is either red or black depending on the uniform. Im currently a saildeer because Im a mix of Navy and Army. Im in afghanistan doing a job that has nothing to do with my real Navy rate and Im working for the Army.

Apologize for brief history lesson. But Im so tired of explaining to the Army that I wear their ACU uniform, Have green stripes because I work on aircraft, and Im in the Navy. Our E-4s are saluted quite a bit by the Army side because our E4 insignia looks very similar to their Colonel's insignia.

I made it all the way up to Sargent, then turned around and went the other way.
Got transferred from a line unit to a training unit, requested reassignment to a line
unit, was denied, developed one serious attitude.

Oh ok, so now I should risk my life, to get payed less, when I can do paperwork, and make more money.
Your right, being enlisted sounds great, as a matter a fact, I should enlist now.

I have no problem when it comes to enlisted people, in fact, if I don't get to college then I will probably enlist with my Chaplets letter. I'll probably get involved with some sort of aviation (of course) and go to college later. If I do go to college however, Then great, I'm going to be an officer, that's what I realy want. The only time I don't like enlisted is when they try and tell you that being enlisted is the way to go, but it really isn't. If you think about the long run, after your carrer in the service, what are you looking to do once you get out? is there any jobs, other than blackwater, that you can get for infantry? Or, as an officer, who does those paper work jobs, gets to go out of the service, are there any jobs for paperwork? Think about the long run.
Oh, and what I was talking about your post. Your post are worse than mine to comprehend, and that's saying somthing.
