USNA
« on: March 05, 2009, 07:13:47 PM »
I know this isn't that big of a deal for most of you, but for me, I nearly exploded. I finally got my first real step toward an Academy. The Air Force Academy is my first choice, but the Naval academy is my fall-back. I have yet to receive a response from the Air Force, but I had this e-mail waiting for me when I got home today:

"Dear Andrew Dinmore,

I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to attend Session 1 of the Naval Academy Summer Seminar!

The purpose of this e-mail is to personally and promptly inform you of your acceptance and to allow the maximum amount of time for you to prepare for your trip to Annapolis.  No reply to this e-mail is necessary.  I will be sending you a registration packet containing more detailed program information from our offices shortly.

I look forward to seeing you on “The Yard” this summer!

Session 1: May 30th – June 4th

Session 2: June 6th – 11th

Session 3: June 13th – 18th

Very Respectfully,

John W.D. Meise

Lieutenant, United States Navy

Officer-In-Charge, NASS"

Like I said, I'm sure it's not much to most of you, but I'm damned sure proud of it!

The Navy has been very good to my friends and family that have served their time with them.  Congradulations, I wish you the best. :salute

Congratulations man.  You should be proud to be considered for the Academy.

I personally wouldn't have considered any of the service academy schools as a "fall back". I really wanted to get into USMA when I was in high school but the only one that even responded was USNA and I blew it off. They wanted me to come play football for them but I wanted to go to play and attend USMA (at that time Army was a pretty good football team in the late 80's and early 90's).

So just one small bit of advice from someone who should have but didn't...don't consider any of them as a fall back. First rate education will be received from all of them IF you go.

Thanks. By fall-back, I meant I really want to join the Air Force. I'm a closet-case carrier dweeb though, so I would be MORE than happy flying for the Navy. And if I don't hear back from USAFA, I'm going for Annapolis. :D

Don't forget that you can still receive an Air Force Commission even if you graduate from USNA (not sure why you would want too tho :devil)

If requested and approved, any graduate from one of the Service Academy's can receive a commission into the service of their choice.

Congrats and goodluck

Congrats, I will be saluting you soon. If you go into aviation and fly helicopters you'll come to my squadron (HSC-2) to get your final quals. Just ask around in the Avionics shop for the kid who went to Afghanistan
