May I add, if I didn't do what I was taught, it was hard to sit down for a while.  When I go to the grocery store, I hear kids talking to their parents in a way that if I had done it, I would still be sitting on a donut pillow.

Me i really love my mum and dad im an only child so they are pretty much my best friends. Even if i am a little crude with them its always a joke and i respect them more than anybody in the world.

I'm surprised that Iron Maiden has not been mentioned, those guys set the standards for self made musicians. You can look at bands like Iced Earth, Blind Guardian and Amorphis. They have also set modern standards for self made musicians.

As far as the actual point of this thread, here's my take on it. My kids know that they had better be on their best behavior. I grew up in a household that was not afraid to spank and ground. I know there has been a time or two growing up that if my parents asked me to do something like clean my room and I just blew them off I often came home to a room with a mattress and a few pairs of clothes.. A person would be a bit off to think that every teen is a complete monster but all it takes in the eyes of perception is that one bad apple to ruin it for the others...

I also hear that "why are you listening to blah blah blah instead of the older stuff?" My response to that is, you listened to that stuff as a kid, and I listen to stuff that I like as a kid. Some day, I may be telling some kid "why are you listening to blah blah blah instead of blink-182, like REAL music!"

Been looking at old media clips? They liked to sensationalize back then too. But the TV crowd will take a sound bite as gospel.  I never liked Hendrix or the Beatles either.

there are more drugs and more young people going completely mental (sometimes permanently) on drugs now than at any point in the 60s and 70s. Yeah i wasnt there to proove this but i'm pretty sure thats an accurate statement aswell as a worrying one. It's not even about peace and love this time..

Much to my dismay as I am an avid rock fan, I have to agree entirely with this post.  A couple popular modern rock bands left that actually are in control of their product are tool and radiohead.
