There was some a little cheaper but their cleaning rod or those pieces of metal where the sling goes were missing. Since I cant shoot it safely where I live (lots of livestock down range) I haven't got to shoot it yet but with any gun I get I took it to a gunsmith and he said its good to go.

I know what you're talking about with enemy at the gates. I watched it right after I bought it just to get a look at her.  :aok

I got this baby yesterday. Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30 dated '43 with all matching numbers. IMO best $85 Iv ever spent. Thinking about getting a M44 next, hell might just try and get a whole set since they are so cheap.

M44 = ouch.  five rounds downrange and I'd had enough.  Looks nice, cool for collecting, but nobody will want to shoot it much.  :)

Tarmac, grab you one of these:

It takes 2 secs to put on and off the butt. I throw it on the back of all my military rifles and it allows me to shoot all day. A metal butt plate is not very nice on the shoulder after a couple of rounds.

If you buy surplus ammo for it, be VERY careful.  The odds of that ammo being corrosive is high.  You will need to wash/clean the barrel, bolt, and anything else near the barrel (action, etc) with hot soap and water after firing or else it WILL rust.  Not cool.

I have a k98 made in 1943, it has the laminated wood stock with all the markings intact.  It is near mind condition, too.  I paid $200 for it about 10 years ago.  It is worth more now because they are getting very difficult to find.

Cool thanks makarov.  Good to know they actually help.  I usually only consider firing it in the winter when I've got a bunch of layers on.  Maybe it can be a year round gun now.  :)

how old do you have to be to get a gun permit? I am turing 18 in july and one of my dads friends owns a orginal M1 Carbine that i really like and he is getting ready to put it up for sale. Nobody else in my family has a gun permit so i was hoping to get one.

It should be 18 for rifles/shotguns and 21 for handguns. Of course State laws may be different, so check yours first. An M1 Carbine is an excellent first rifle. Of course be careful and look into all the safety rules. Check out this for good info for new owners:

Also consider joining the NRA to support peoples gun rights. :)

BTW, it's not really a permit you need, it's more of showing proof of age (license) and residency.
