Always wondered if it would be possible to remove all planes skin save 1(orange Nik) and make it default for all planes.

I frequently have this problem, course I also have a little of the 'ol red/green color blindness going on to.  I even lose the default red icons against the forest terrain too, actually fly witht he default icon colors reversed.

Will have to try messing with the gama to see if it helps, running a little on the dark side lately because I like the color palette more that way.

so why not have icons off in the MA?

1. In real life, Mustangs didn't fight Mustangs.

2. The limitations of 2-D monitors and limited pixel depth is compensated by range on icons.

3. You don't have to fly with icons on in the MA, or anywhere else for that matter.  Feel free to turn them off and enjoy yourself.

Even with icons, I can't tell if they are coming or going part of the time.

Add me to the list of people who has a hard time spotting aircraft at close range when over the wooded areas or ocean.  Yes, the icon is easy to see, but you have to be able to see the aircraft itself to know what the other guy is doing, where to shoot, how to anticipate, etc.

Hah!  For some of us it is not that easy to see un-camoflaged aircraft in flight in real life, particularly if they are below the horizon.  I find quite often that my eye is drawn by movement, rather than by seeing the plane.

That is true OM now days with cities building up around the airport it can be really hard to spot an aircraft in the traffic pattern against all of the background clutter.
It is also getting hard to even spot an airport at night time with all of the bright city lights around it. Thankfully we have GPS now:)

The same thing used to be with the B-26. If you'd fly above them over a wooded area, the entire formation would *poof* disappear. And it's even bigger than the P-40!  :huh

Yeah b26s are especially difficult.

I don't think people who don't have this problem realise how bad it is.  I can be fixed d200 behind a con, but should he turn into a wooded area i completely lose him.  I can see his icon, but that is of no use if i can't see his wings or fuselage, the only thing i can do is break off the attack.

I predict a massive increase in P-40 and B-26 usage :D

yup, and it makes me wonder if it is my / our eyes, or our monitors set incorrectly in some way...

I auger many times trying to get "below" the con so I can be looking at his outline to shoot.

I find it funny that people are complaining about how hard aircraft can be to see, but when players whine that turning off player skins makes the Tiger and Panzer Blaze orange while other tanks are green they tell them to suck it up :lol

Isn't it supposed to be harder to see a tank in the forest than a plane in the air?  Give me a default green paint job for the GVs and I'll gladly support your desire to see planes better  :aok

I also have the same problem, hopfully when they upgrade the terran it will be better, I also noticed in FSO they are easyer to see due to the background color scheme.

It seems to me that size is the real culprit here, in real life planes that are 500 yards away look much larger than in AH (not sure if this is some kind of code limitation or what).  The zoom helps but then you loose some SA as a trade off.

Zoom helps a lot, but it completely hoses your SA (vis-à-vis distance estimation), which can be fatal when you're diving towards the ground. How many times have you realized at the last moment that you were a lot closer to the ground than you thought?
