What's with the Yak?
« on: March 25, 2009, 05:53:05 PM »
I've noticed about twice as many Yaks as there used to be...  Maybe because I am flying them more I just now noticing them...

Has anyone else noticed an unusual Yak emergence?

Comparing this tours kills and deaths to whole 2008's doesnt seem to support that perception. There's only a very minor increase in Yak kills+deaths detectable

I thought everyone was either flying a P51D or 190 variant now...  Usually at least 10k above the rest of the fight.

I'm not sure about others, but FSO usually gets me flying different rides in the MA to get in some practice.  Perhaps check what planes are in the FSOs and Scenarios?

I wonder if those are some of the same guys who come to the BBs complaining about Noe missions taking the easy way out by avoiding fights??

The Yak has terrific views, is very fast, dives, climbs, rolls, either well or very well. The guns WILL actually hurt somebody and even take a couple bombers down. For the really good shots theres no reason they cant get 3 to 5 kills in one Yak run.

But best of all its fast, tough to nail down, and is a very good fighter at bringing the pilot home, at least I have found. The Yak is a really good plane to move up to from your 5 eny phase. I like it cause in some way it stacks up well against every 5 eny fighter. Either its faster, climbs better, turns better, dives as well, or plain out runs everything else. Just leave yourself a couple/4 thousand K of alt and/or dont slow down much past 250 mph.

The 9U is a great, great airplane.

I see a lot of the better sticks in yaks.

Evidently it take's a decent stick for all that E management as well as making up for lack of gas & ammo.

Better than the hoardes of 51D, spit 16, and Typhies.

I jumped in the 9T for the last week of the tour to get my gunnery back up to speed. I was missing easy shots, with the bogey hanging, and was getting annoyed.  I find the Yak9T is superior for this purpose, due to it's 32 rounds of cannon.  The nature of the plane makes you slow down and earn the shot.

I re-tuned my aim, and got 36 kills in it over the ending 6 days of tour, for 9 lost airframes.
