You should have went with Audi/Volkswagon.   The mechanics where I work absolutely hate them.

WTG :)

College is all about *you* paying *them* to teach you . . burn into it and learn all you can.

It aint high school and, usually, what you learn will have a direct impact on what you can earn.

ie: two applicants . . one has a degree . one doesnt .. guess which one gets hired? .. and at a higher rate?

Ah, but the one thing that cant be taught is .... ....

experience.

I highly suggest that anyone in any career field do all they can to gain the much valued experience that employers are looking for.  As someone who has hired/fired in the past, I will take almost anyone who has X number of years experience vs someone with a higher degree (or any degree) simply because classroom knowledge does not equate to field expertise.  That I guarantee.  Whether it is law enforcement, the medical field, or auto-mechanics, it all holds true.

btw... best of luck to those heading off for an education.  It is well worth it once you actually earn your degree.  It is something on one can take from you.

If you have two applicants .. one has 10 yrs exp .. one has 10yrs exp and a degree . . which one gets the job?

No experience? .. ok . . you have two applicants ..one out of high school, one just out of college with a degree, which would you prefer?

Experience and no degree usually means the guy gets low balled.
He's got no degree, you can squeeze him.
Been there.
I have had to train people that were hired at more than I was makin who didnt know squat ..but .. they had a degree.

It's been my experience that 'experience' is only half the equation ..if that.

10yr experience vs 10yr experience AND a degree?  The odds will be with the person who has a degree, but even then the quality of that experience comes into play because if the degree has not facilitated that person's performance... then it matters not.  Dont get me wrong, I think having a degree and being educated is important but if one were to look at the number of self made millionaires in the US you'll find that the majority of them do not have a degree.

Like I said, I am speaking from the education, law enforcement, and medical fields point of view.  Experience means everything.

They do not hire RN's without a degree as far as I know.
(several years as an LPN) .. for that particular field it is degree first just to begin to get experience.

I am not sure about Law Enforcement
.. pretty sure they do not hire someone without any formal education
.. places I actually applied for had some kind of academy you had to go through first, just to get experience.

So I disagree .. experience is not everything in a LOT of careers
.. it won't even get you in the door in far too many places unless you have some formal education in that field to start with.

Of course, if you know someone who works there ..all bets are off.
