Gray-Out Unavailable Loadouts in the Hanger
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:13:53 PM »
OK, this to me, is one of the most annoying features of the code as it's currently written:

If an option is unavailable at a field: ords, drop tanks, 100% fuel, whatever, then Gray It Out and display the available hanger options accordingly. What's currently available for a given aircraft should be evident at a glance when I go to the hanger.

If this is too much, then at least have the hanger graphics default to no ords, DT, etc. if they're not available. It's silly to select a loadout option, be prompted that it's not available, then have to manually set that option to nothing before you can take off. Frankly, you shouldn't even be able to leave the hanger with an unavailable loadout selected.

Is this possible as it is now?

Or you could just have a "Availible Planes" Tab under what types of planes you want to selcet.

After you clear the "xxxx unavailable" prompts, you can return to the tower with unavailable options still selected. Of course it won't let you take off.

Not talking planes Stokes, talking loadout: ords, fuel, etc.

In that case, good idea! It would be nice to see grey ordnance for a change, all the green bombs are getting boring  :aok

It's only one extra click.

If you have a loaded up 88 ( or whatever) it seems like it takes forever to get through all of the popups, since there's one for every unavailable option. It's pretty annoying.

Even on an 88 you would normally only get 2 maybe 3 popups. I totally agree with this, but I'm just saying...it's only a couple clicks.

No, it can be several clicks, as well as an unexpected return to the hanger if you missed something. The point is it's silly. OK, say I select DT in the hanger and the game informs me that it's not available. Fair enough. But why does the unavailable option (DT in his case) stay selected?  That's poor coding.

I know why HTC did it like this, but it could be better. It's done because the program can't assume what loadout you want if the options you last selected are not currently available. A better solution would be to prompt the player (on entering the Hanger, or trying to take off) that the options he used last are not currently available, and take him to the hanger (if he's not already there). At this point all unavailable options in the hanger would be grayed-out, and he can pick what he wants from the remaining options.

You're right, it can be just a couple of clicks. But it's annoying, and I suspect it's not a major coding task to fix.

I don't want to have to play "Guess what works" in the hanger. I want to fly. :salute

The thing is making this automatic might allow players to take off without knowing the ordnance they meant to take off with was automatically removed by the no-prompt-windows formula.

Can't find any fault with highlighting, though.

I think this would be a good idea...not great but good.  The only feature we have similar to this is the little chalkboard in the tower that tells us what is available and what is not  :)

Wasn't going for great, just like to reduce the current annoyance. I'm just surprised it's been this way for so long.
