What crashed? The hard-drive or the computer? What type of new hard-drive? Have you re-installed drivers for your video-card and sound-card/chipset?
A dxdiag would definitely be of assistance in this matter.

When you say the HD crashed, what exactly do you mean? Did it stop spinning, did it lose power, what happened?

Just a piece of advice, i keep a 500gig external drive hooked up to my machine. it has some automatic backup software with it. i always back up my drive once a week. in case of total failure i can restore my machine in a few hours as opposed to day and days of trying to find software and remembering what was on the machine. just a thought!
