As a rule I think all newbies should have a yellow bar under their name/icon, and should be identified in the text buffer in some way.
Yesterday this guy kept saying he was in an lvt bringing troops,and after 30minutes I realised he was floating about ten miles off shore... and probably mentaly handicapped.

Perhaps a self distruct for anyone who straifs the indestructable more than 3 times in a row...

LOL, "somone keep these guys off of me!!" he finaly made it to shore , though tragicly the nme saw fit to destroy his lvt......., then he upped another one......TARD

So, instead of helping him out, you come on the boards to ridicule him....good effort

I am in agreement with the assessment of your character, Stephen.  Although you are not obligated to help new guys, if you choose not to help you should keep your mouth shut.

If anything, your wish for a "noob marker" might bear some small merit to indicate a 2-weeker on his free trial, but not for anyone who is a paying member (noob or not).  Identifying a 2-weeker will at least let people know that they are inexperienced and might need some extra help when you tell them to bring troops or to kill the ords or VH, since they might not know where the maproom is or what it looks like, etc.

I'm all for helping the new guys...I used to be one.

I agree that marking an individual on their free 2-week trial of AH might have some benefits with, unfortunately, some added consequences. Benefits would be that of players attempting to assist the two-weeker in order to entice the player to stay and play. This would also lead to a better enjoyment of the game on part of the two-weeker as the player now has a possibility of making friends more quickly and also learning the ropes of the game at a faster pace. The consequence would be more individuals taking advantage of the marking of the free trial players. They would obviously harass the players suggesting that they're worthless and shouldn't attempt to assist in offensive operations. No, it may not be as harsh as you're thinking, but it will still be there.

However, in the end, I think the benefits of this feature outweigh the costs.

Yeah, not to mention that they'd be flying around with a HUGE kill-me-I'm-new-bullseye on them.  Maybe it's best left as it is.  *Sigh*

Unfortunately with the game play in the toilet as it is your right, it would turn into a "kill me" sign. I'd like it because then I could go easy on the guy, give him a chance to fight it out, make the fight last and be more thrilling for him.

There is no need to put a scarlet "Newb" on any new players.  It is hard enough to learn this games ins and outs without a "kick me" note taped on your back.  Be as helpful and as courteous as possible to new players.  They may actually provide you a good future squaddie or a fun foe to fight!

heres an idea......maybe have different colored markers for different levels of veterancy, for example;

     green=someone on 2 week trial
     yellow=paying member < 1 year
     orange= > 1 yr < 3 years
     red= < 5 years

maybe keep these markers visible only to friendlies to avoid the big "kill me sign" mentioned earlier...again just an idea  :salute

Why?  There are noobs who suck...  Vets who suck...  Not to mention vets who are tools...  Why stroke their ego?  They stroke it themselves enough.

I see no value in labeling new players.  In fact, I think it is simply asking to have the channel 200 warriors harrass the new guys until they quit the game.
