Events in the MA text buffer
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:42:15 PM »
Im 99.9 percent sure this one has been asked before but I thought it should still be at the top of the wishlist.

I play online poker alot and every now and then I see an event of some sort come into the text buffer with the time till it starts.

Why can't we do that with the MA? Just like a weekly calender set up with the event and time and It pops up on the text buffer.

Just a thought

They could if someone besides an HTC staff member had CM privs for the Main Arenas. Would be hard to trust someone with that responsibility though.

Really, that isn't a bad idea.

I wonder how hard it would be to "COAD" it so Special Events get broadcast automatically in the other arenas.  Something in the Text Buffer in Blue or Yellow that announces an event.  I bet it wouldn't be THAT hard to tie it in with the Calendar of Events.

Or MAYBE COAD it so when a player logs on they see it, somewhat like a MOTD, but in the text buffer.

hmmm...

+1, requested before. I think if it had been implemented the Thursday snapshots would still be running :(

would be very simple to coad the MOTD to pick up events from the AH calendar and announce on the text buffer eg. 30mins before event start.

Ive heard players of over a year asking "what is a snapshot?" pretty sure theres a large proportion of players that have no idea that theres more to AH than the MA. I always imagined a progression for players TA -> MA -> Snapshots -> FSO/Scenarios. most of the playerbase doesnt get further than the MA, which is fine if thats by choice, not so good if its because they dont realise that there is more.

FSO is the best thing AH has to offer, in my opinion.  I would love to see it expand even more.

Snapshots are cool too, but I think they suffer from the very thing that they are designed to be...  Somewhat spontaneus.   FSO gets good attendance because there is a pretty high level of commitment required to be a part of it.   Squads must organize to be in FSO, they must commit to a certain number of pilots.  There is planning done ahead of the event.  A good amount of anticipation builds as orders are issued, squads assign aircraft to their pilots, even up to the moment that the fields open and the sortie begins.  All of these things make FSO an event.

Snapshots, on the hand, are far more casual.  You can go, or not go, all on a whim.  I don't know, snapshots just lack the mystique that FSO has I guess.  But, I haven't done a snapshot for awhile, maybe I'll try to catch one in the near future and see if perhaps it is cooler then I recall.

+1 :)

CM's have asked for something like this over the years. I remember asking for it years ago.
Sure would be nice, but it is not on the HTC priority list. :)

Reproducing the events calendar in the lobby would also help.

And how about.. a dedicated MOTD-like brief that you can bring up for the last announced event?  That the event CM's responsible for writing up.
