Ive heard players of over a year asking "what is a snapshot?" pretty sure theres a large proportion of players that have no idea that theres more to AH than the MA. I always imagined a progression for players TA -> MA -> Snapshots -> FSO/Scenarios. most of the playerbase doesnt get further than the MA, which is fine if thats by choice, not so good if its because they dont realise that there is more.
FSO is the best thing AH has to offer, in my opinion. I would love to see it expand even more.
Snapshots are cool too, but I think they suffer from the very thing that they are designed to be... Somewhat spontaneus. FSO gets good attendance because there is a pretty high level of commitment required to be a part of it. Squads must organize to be in FSO, they must commit to a certain number of pilots. There is planning done ahead of the event. A good amount of anticipation builds as orders are issued, squads assign aircraft to their pilots, even up to the moment that the fields open and the sortie begins. All of these things make FSO an event.
Snapshots, on the hand, are far more casual. You can go, or not go, all on a whim. I don't know, snapshots just lack the mystique that FSO has I guess. But, I haven't done a snapshot for awhile, maybe I'll try to catch one in the near future and see if perhaps it is cooler then I recall.
