Need expensive upgrades for almost any current game anymore- I've gotten three box games in the last year that won't play on my computer. RoF is the final straw- I need a new comp.

Still Im seeing alot of things in this game that make me have the same thoughts about Air Warrior the first time I downloaded Aces High.
"Damn. This is how Air Warrior should be already"

Apart from some of the obvious. Artillary peices, more detailed graphics. There are a few nuances that shoulda been added long ago.
Plane wreckage (if you can do bomb craters. plane and GV wreckage  shouldnt be  problem I would think)
Bomb blasts complete with flying debris.and explosions with shock waves  is long overdue. and the shockaves would be a particular upgrade to the GV experience

A more detailed looking damage graphics.
Here is a shot from a game I played on my old P500 Note the damage to the tail (That was 3 computers ago)

And an area where the AH graphics actually took a step backwards. more realistic looking puffy ack. We actually used to have puffy ack that..well looked like real puffy ack. Now we have dark colored cotton balls which at a distance look realisic enough. but up close. looks like...dark colored cotton balls

I could go on with the list but I think you get my point

No. but you need a combination of the two.
There isnt anything I've mentioned that would take away from the substance. All are experience inhancers. Which IMO is part of the "substance" Otherwise we might as well stay withthe old Air Warrior graphic model.
And all are overdue additions.

You want substance?
Then add on prop wash. turbulance, thermals generated by the fires at the strat targets. and realisic weather conditions.

Not true, and perhaps a somewhat nieve understanding of what the AH servers acheive.

Tell me have you ever had 128 players on your IL-2 server? What is your upstream bandwidth? And what sort of router do you use?

I've never run a 128 player server, however I did run a 32 player server a few years ago with 30 players on and little to no lag. However I manually tweaked the net settings on that server to optimize the bandwidth usage. The dedicated server PC had a 1.5 mbit connection and used about 750 kbit, or about half of the available bandwidth; it's always good to have a lot of headroom.

Now I have a 50/20 mbit connection and using the same settings I could in theory run a 400 player IL2FB server. In theory...

128 players should be no problem.

Oh and you shouldn't use big words if you don't know how to spell them. Kind of defeats the purpose.

The Il-2 online war Forgotten Skies has had up to 115 people on line, at one time - 60 Axis verses 55 Allied. I am not sure of the server specs - the server is donated to FS by the Fallen Angels Squadron (they run Winds Of War and several other servers as well).

FS recently went full mod - AAA UI 1.1.1 plus some custom mods so the overall numbers of players have fallen to about 70 - 35 per side. Last night there were 37 Axis verse 34 Allied. As people get more used to mods the numbers will go back. Many folks are "turned off" by having to download and install various mods - some not compatible outside of FS. A couple of squads were opposed to mods all together so they left FS. The numbers of folks that left FS due to playability issues is small.

We use "the moving dogfight" mod where we have moving ships / ground columns / trains and run off the modded 4.09bm1 dedicate server software - as opposed to COOPs that are hosted by a player. There are COOP mods that allow 64 and 94 players and I have flown in SEOW campaigns were we have had 60 players plus a full ground war and AI aircraft. Il-2 is what 7 years old? It doesn't require the best system to play well. For people play it plays well for others they are have issues.

I know several folks in the Rise of Flight beta and from what I hear its not that bad either. I think WW1 is boring as hell and regardless of how "good it looks" I doubt I will bother with it. The Korean War mod of BoB:Sow looks much more interesting.

I'm really surprised that no one has been banned from the forum for discussing this game.

400 player? Riiiiiiiiiiight. So you're saying IL2 uses less than 25kbps per player?

This is Aces High run by HTC Not some second rate EA game run by..EA.

I've never seen HTC have a problem with discussing other games. And that is one of the things I respect about them.

Probobly because in the forums for other games its not uncommon for the subject of competing games to a taboo.

If I remember correctly. in Air Warrior they didnt even like it when you talked about other games while playing the game let alone in the forum.
