Standardize bomber gun positions?
« on: April 27, 2009, 10:19:03 PM »
Would this be possible?

So if two different bombers have, let's say, waist guns; they would have the same position numbers.

As it is, I only fly B26's because I can quickly switch between the guns as I'm attacked.

As soon as I go to a 24 or 17, I can't make those smooth transitions.

I'll agree with this post too!  I rarely fly the B-26, but when I do and hit the "four" key to go to tail I go to nose.  I don't care which pattern is used just make them as standard as possible!

This is one I can get on board.

However,  :D

The problem arises in where you set the standardization.  If a bomber doesn't have a particular position do you skip that number?  Do you jump the numbers from the most used positions to the least used?  Do you start numbering in the front and work your way back?

Just technicalities.  It would be great if it could be worked out and implemented.

Yup, just skip it. Shouldn't be really a problem. It's just like weapon selection in most FPS games.

For example
2=Nose
3=Top
4=Rear
5=Belly
6=Left
7=Right

And change the system message:
If you hit #5 in a 25C you get a message like: "Your plane has no such station"

Would be nice to be able to set those positions yourself.
Then you could standardize, so that all tail guns would be 3 for example.

This is brilliant!!  Couldn't you do that now?

No, I'm not being sarcastic nor facetious.  I just never thought of doing this.

This idea has merit......

But for selfish reasons..... The nose guns should be 5, not 2.......   :D

It can't be arbitrary like that.

It goes from most common to least common positions, meaning 2 is the tailgun.

Karnak is right, you need to look at your planeset and figure out what stations are most common and go down from there.  The lanc pretty much dictates the 2-3-4 being Nose-Upper-Tail, then the 26s/25s give you 5-6 as Left-Right, finally the Ball forms #7.   That being said I also agree with APDrone.  While the layout Lusche put out is a good default, I absolutely would love to have a customizable gunner position key call.

The most common would be "upper", taking into account things like SBDs and other "light" bombers.
