AUTOBALANCE????!
« on: April 28, 2009, 06:23:02 AM »
It's rather ridiculous when you enter an arena to see teams like these:

Bishops:2
Knights:22
Rooks:8

Would it be so difficult to have the server balance the teams?

How should that work?

People would whine (more) that they couldn't fly where they wanted to fly.  Try the other arena.  The numbers will more than likely be skewed the opposite way.

the eny system does a good job IMO,  it works as a kind of balancer giving the players on knights a choice.  If they maintain those numbers they will be flying watermelon planes, any worthwhile morally upstanding player, will swap Bish and wreck those 22 knights with uber perk rides on the cheap and make perk point/kill heaven.

I swear, in my imagination probably, there was a "que" system at one point that made you wait in the OC until there was space available to join the country of your choice in an arena or you could choose to switch countries or try the other arena.

My favorite example of this so far has been last time I went to EW.  Eleven players in the arena.  Nine of them were Bish.  Of the nine, seven were the members of two separate squads.

I suggested that the squads could each choose a country so they would have someone to fight.  The reply was, "but we've always been Bish."

 :rofl

Doesnt really matter when all of them (or at least 15-18 of them) are attacking the same airfield - with a whole half of their numbers there to defend it, and that's assuming your team even moves to defend.

First off, the server can't balance sides, only people can do that.
Server can't say "you can only enter that arena if you fly Bishop" and if it could, you'd hate it, as your mate's, squadron are rook or knight.

Second, the problem is compounded by those who stay knight with a big numbers advantage. I know some people get attached to chess pieces. But in this case I suspect its more about winning and having the numerical edge.

The only real solution is for people to step up. If you don't want to be outnumbered 20 to 2, then sometimes when you log in, and find yourself on the high # team. You need to switch country's and help out the underdog.

The other thing that happens is different sides seem to have peak # at different times of the day.

Last, squadrons that consistently find themselves on the high numbered side should consider switching.
You will meet new people, find out that those hated foes can be good guys too.

So?  I fly with my squad the majority of the time, but if I see the country we are flying with has a large #'s advantage, I will switch in a heartbeat.
You get accused of being a "spy" perhaps, but so what?  Squelch whoever is talking smack and go on and have fun.  Remember sticks and stones, blah, blah, "but words will never hurt me".

If you switch sides, show a little class. Don't immediately go attack the country you came from.

Don't grab the CV for any reason.

Don't use any inside information you may have heard before you switched.

Do ask where help is needed defending.

Prove that you are one of the "good" guys, by the way you act and react.
Take the high moral ground, and just stand there. If anyone says anything just say " I'm here to help, where do you want me?"

It may take a few times, but in time the vets will accept it if you do.

Ghosth, you know what I meant, sir.
I change sides, but I don't bring the info about CV locations, etc with me, or use it.  Usually I just look for the largest enemy dar bar with the smallest friendly dar bar and head to that area to get into the fight.
I don't log in with a war winning strategy, log locations of fleets and such and then switch sides to exploit it.  Most times, when I change, the first clue anyone has is when I run into a former countrymate who I was fighting alongside an hour before, but I run into them in a totally different area of the map.  If they ask why I changed sides, I will tell them I did it to help even the sides, which is true.
The majority of the time, I make it a point to not fight against the country I was just flying with.  If I go from rook to nit, I fight the bish, nit to rook, I fight the bish, etc.  Fewer hard feelings and accusations of spying and such if I do it that way.

LOL yes Eddiek "I" did know, but thought it wasn't perhaps clear. :)

I agree, always best if possible not to go fighting the side you just left.
