No truer statement has ever been made.  That being said, the 38 drivers continue to have fun not knowing what they are doing! :D

I can say I never really gave the 38 a chance. It always seemed a plane of extremes, either it is easy money OR you come upon one that is flown very well and you get your teeth kicked in " NO middle ground for this plane " Once you get  a feel for the gunnery, the baddies don't get a second breath too often. I still think it to be better than the ki84 especially when the fight is transitioning from higher to lower speeds. Untill you get down to slow enough speed for the ki to use flaps, the ki84 is in allot of trouble and must be pretty good at jinking and avoiding a couple snap shots, once the ki can get its flaps out, the fat lady is warming up :aok  Oh and rolling scissors in the 38 is a smooooooooooooooth dream with allot of control, even down to very low speeds. The 38 has sparked my interest quite a bit  <S>

When you have as many hours as me flying the P-38 in AH then you can come and talk to me about your experience in flying it and maybe I'll pay attention to whatever tips you may have.  I would also tend to take you more seriously if you managed to get more kills than deaths in the P-38.

The beauty of the 38G is it's too slow to run away, so once you are in the fight, you have to stay and you learn in a hurry what it does well and what it doesn't.  As Lazer and others mentioned, you then start trolling below the crowd trying to get em to come down, reverse em and have at it.

The danger of this way as you saw the other night is if they only come in packs of 5-6 at a time, it can be over in a hurry, but for those times where you get em to play one or two at a time it can be well worth the effort :)

After I was half through my second tour I decided to learn the 38. Haven't looked back since. The plane is so much fun to fly!

You can get so much out of the plane on the merge. Low speed fighting is a dream once you kinda get the feel for using the counter rotating propellers. Very satisfying to fly a flat scissors at 90mph, a high aoa, and watch your torque challenged friend stall out or shoot in front of you!  :cool:

You Want tips? Ok! Since Ack-Ack is saying he's better than me (Which I don't realy care Spikes wins a cookie for being correct) here is some things on being a good dive bomber in a P-38.

http://I Have Been Complemented alot Lately on My Dive Bombing Accuracy. rock In Fact today I took Out 2 Panzers and A VH all in Just 2 bombs.... Not even half a second Apart. WHOA!

So What's The Secret?
How Is this Possible?

That Gentlemen Is What this Post Is About.

PLANE

I prefer to Use the P-38-J...Our Squad Plane.
ORDNANCE : 2 1000 Pound Bombs. Why that much? 1 of these can take out a tiger or 2 can take out a VH
Rockets Are optional.

I Choose to use the 38 for Multiple reasons.

    * Squad Plane
    * 2 Engines (In Case One Dies I Have another one to go on)

    * Awesome Climbing Capability
    * Bombs Drop Accurately (I Will Get to this later)

GUNSIGHT

My #1 Choice for A Dive Bombing gunsight is this:

It's Called the P-38 Gunstar. The Square down below the Sight is For Dive Bombing. The Crosses in the Corners are for Rockets and the Sight in the Middle is for your guns. This Is a great gunsight to use But I only reccomend Putting it on One P-38...The sight is Too Squished in for me to see planes in it...But Whatever you prefer.
(NOTE: You may have to Re-size the Sight for it to show in-game.)
_____________________________ ____________________ _____________________________ ______________
TO DIVE BOMB.

1)Hover around a Base and Look for a tank.

2)When Tank is spotted fly over him about 1.5 K until you are Above him.

3)Go Vertical.

4)Dive down on him at a 90 Degree angle. (NOTE depending on your angle use the Main Middle Sight For Aiming if you are 90 Degrees or The Bomb Sight if you are 80 or 60 or 45...etc)

5)Drop Bomb When He is in your Sight (Check above ^^^)

6)Pull up Sharply

7)Wait for 2 Explosions. 1 for the Bomb hitting the Ground and 2 for the Tank Exploding. Thumbs UP!

Watch Out For flacks too. Don't dive bomb a field if there are 3 flacks on the Pad or more. Only bomb when Flacks are on the field IF they are all gathered in the VH. Big Grin

Any Questions? Feel Free to post them.

 salute
