You can carry bombs in a 38?  I learn something new every day. All these years flying cartoon 38s and I find out a new trick.   How do they help in air combat? :)

Bark0, if that's what you are using the 38 for, you are missing out on all kinds of fun in the name of moving mud.

You Want tips? Ok! Since Ack-Ack is saying he's better than me (Which I don't realy care Spikes wins a cookie for being correct) here is some things on being a good dive bomber in a P-38.

I Have Been Complemented alot Lately on My Dive Bombing Accuracy. rock In Fact today I took Out 2 Panzers and A VH all in Just 2 bombs.... Not even half a second Apart. WHOA!

So What's The Secret?
How Is this Possible?

The only way you could have taken out two panzer tanks and a VH with only 2,000 worth of bombs is if the hanger was already soft and the tanks were sitting in the hanger.  Luck?  Yes.  Skill?  No.

PLANE

I prefer to Use the P-38-J...Our Squad Plane.
ORDNANCE : 2 1000 Pound Bombs. Why that much? 1 of these can take out a tiger or 2 can take out a VH
Rockets Are optional.

I Choose to use the 38 for Multiple reasons.

    * Squad Plane
    * 2 Engines (In Case One Dies I Have another one to go on)

    * Awesome Climbing Capability
    * Bombs Drop Accurately (I Will Get to this later)

GUNSIGHT

My #1 Choice for A Dive Bombing gunsight is this:

It's Called the P-38 Gunstar. The Square down below the Sight is For Dive Bombing. The Crosses in the Corners are for Rockets and the Sight in the Middle is for your guns. This Is a great gunsight to use But I only reccomend Putting it on One P-38...The sight is Too Squished in for me to see planes in it...But Whatever you prefer.
(NOTE: You may have to Re-size the Sight for it to show in-game.)
_____________________________ ____________________ _____________________________ ______________
TO DIVE BOMB.

1)Hover around a Base and Look for a tank.

2)When Tank is spotted fly over him about 1.5 K until you are Above him.

3)Go Vertical.

4)Dive down on him at a 90 Degree angle. (NOTE depending on your angle use the Main Middle Sight For Aiming if you are 90 Degrees or The Bomb Sight if you are 80 or 60 or 45...etc)

5)Drop Bomb When He is in your Sight (Check above ^^^)

6)Pull up Sharply

7)Wait for 2 Explosions. 1 for the Bomb hitting the Ground and 2 for the Tank Exploding. Thumbs UP!

Watch Out For flacks too. Don't dive bomb a field if there are 3 flacks on the Pad or more. Only bomb when Flacks are on the field IF they are all gathered in the VH. Big Grin

Any Questions? Feel Free to post them.

 salute
Barko Edwards

There. Happy?

I enjoy flying in Guppy's 38 mishuns. We attack a base behind the enemies front line bases. We always load torpedoes to drop on the town. Works every time.

It does take skill to bomb Accurately. B-24's in France during the early part of the war were lucky if their bombs fell within 2 miles of their target. Sometimes I miss too but hey, Whats AHII with getting all your shots on target every time?

Skill is an Opinion to everyone. Sometimes killing 2 planes in the air in 3 seconds is skill, to others it's luck. Sometimes Saving a P-38 in a compression is skill, Sometimes it's luck. I think it was lucky that I killed the hanger and 2 Panzers, but that's also skill IMO.

As for the fighting part, Don't just assume i use the P-38 for Dive bombing, I am a pretty good stick wile fighting in it too. I almost beat Strokes and Spektor in a dogfight, both of them were SAPP members. I'm not. (Yet) that was just a guide form my old squad fourms (that they stickied) because they wanted to know how to do it Accurately. We went to TT a lot in the squad, so it was useful to them and hopefully to those who wish to be better at it.

Ahhh, finally. Now some of you are seeing the side of Barko that I first saw weeks ago, not the shiney faced kid doing stuff in DC that he showed in the O' Club. We were having the normal discusion, btw he hates spits and spitdrivers, so I was explaining some of the history behind the spits and why I fly them, his statement to me was he didn't need an history lesson so I dropped that part and asked why everyone shouldn't be allowed to fly what they like. By this time he had already shut up shop and wasn't willing to debate any further, quite an arrogant young kid really.
As for AKAK, Corky or Lazer and all of SAP really they could teach him how to really fly this plane but he is another one of those kids that think they know it all.

No p38 pilot knows what they are doing...
 :O
Obviously... and hell, some aren't even bright enough to know they could buy a joystick instead of flying with a silly mouse.

I just don't like to Argue, that's all. Arguments lead to nowhere and I already have arguments at school and home, I don't need anymore, Especially from an Online game.

Do you seriously need a specific gun sight to dive bomb accurately?  :lol

I really do not see the 38 as a big of a magnet as it's portrayed.  Maybe newer guys think it's an easy kill, however those in the know tread softly.

I agree with you completely. I feel the forky is a huge magnet and I start salivating the moment I see one in the area. I drop everything I'm doing and immedaitely head for it. Man never made a bigger more perfect target than ole folked tail. Lotsa big parts to see falling off!  No treading softly here. I'm trampling everything thing in the way getting at him. Talk a bout a bull in a china shop. Whooohooo! I just luv em!!! :D

Opps...was this about how good they are? Sorry..... :devil
