new wish!
« on: May 03, 2009, 01:40:03 PM »
smokey is gonna kill me for wishing this, but here we go.

I wish for no more 5 inch manned guns. They bring shame upon any one who tries to torp run. I watch my friendly CV tear apart fighters, and its baffling. The 5 inches beat me to the kill and I'm running around in a fighter!

Maybe not go as far as no more 5 inch manable guns, but take away the AA because it is devastating.

Now if you think about it defensively, those guns are just trying to defend the humble carrier fleet. BUT if you keep thinking defensively, the torp runner is trying to defend his base that the CV group is parked next to. Dive bombing is almost just as hard if you have any one who isn't a 2 week-er in the guns.

While we are at it, lets get rid of the shore batteries as well. They are a pain and cause more grief than good, taking about the same as a hanger to kill, and it pops up again in 15 minutes.

I suppose you could say "Well! you shouldn't park the CV that close to the base, then you won't worry about the shore batteries! DUHHHHHH!", I agree, lets make a buffer zone that makes our CV not able to pass through an enemy radar. And so the shore batteries don't get lonely, lets have a landing fleet. A landing fleet will respawn every 15 minutes just like a hanger if all ships are destroyed, and pop up when the CV commander orders it. Lets say 5 ships, with light guns and as tough as a destroyer. The landing fleet will appear 3k off the shore, and you are able to launch PT boats and LVTs from them (if we had Higgins boats, they would fit perfectly here). If the landing fleet is destroyed, then no LVTs or PTs. (IDK about the PTs, that's up to you wether they belong in the fleet or not)

WOW! back to topic, I don't like the 5 inch manable guns, so change them!  :aok :) ;) :)

Im always a proponant of making CVs tougher and better gunned. Ive seen the same zipper-head up "use once & throwaway JU-88s" 7 or 8 times in a row, each time flinging torps at the CV and bailing. One guy did that for 1/2 hour and then upped PT boats 30 times in a row, each time shooting torps and then bailing. Really the amount of turd look alike game play you see in a 5" gun can be amazing.

And you want to make it easier for the gamey dweebs?

Upping level bombers, Jabos, and dropping ords in historically realistic fashion I can respect. Upping a PT boat and fighting till your dead I can respect. But I'd still like to see CVs tougher and better armed. I'd love to see some Brit ones with the armored decks.

Ya, there are lamers that do that, but they are EZ kills, ya gotta admit! But the TBM and B5N torp bombers are almost useless when armed with a torp

Torp bombing Carriers late in the war wasnt even tried IIRC. Americans Dive bombed and Japanese Dive bombed as well as Kamikaze attacks. Torps were used against not as armed ships. Like transports, destroyers or lighter military ships

Correct me if Im wrong
