Another AWESOME build by TilDeath
« on: May 08, 2009, 07:03:03 AM »
Have always used a system that barely met the system requirements to play the game, a Dell Inspiron 8100 running at a wopping 1ghz and 32M of Geforce2 graphics.  With about everything turned off and graphics to a min, had to get down about 50ft to see a vehicle on the ground, but was still a massive warper.  So about 6 months ago stopped playing altogether and started looking at building a new system.

After reading what everyone was posting about system specs and researching prices I started hearing about this one guy who would build a system for a player that well, rocked.  I contacted TilDeath, we talked about what I want (and can afford) and he made his suggestions......

Well finally got the system the other day, noticed it only took DVI connection to the monitor so of course had to go out in severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings to BestBuy, pressed the on button :O :O :O :O :O :O

I had kept my login over the months and was recently wondering if I should cancel my subscription.  As soon as I booted up and logged in I was glad I didn't.  His build, the best system I have ever had, immediately brought back why I first got hooked onto this game.

Will post the specs later, have to move my pst files over to get to it; but if you are hesitate about getting a system from him, don't be.  He kept in contact with me during the build and CALLED ME later that night after seeing that I signed for the shipment to see how things were going.

I'm sure that computer took you for a ride. Jumping from a single core 1.0 Ghz processor to a (guessing he recommended an i7) quad core 2.0 Ghz + processor will amaze just about anyone.

Have fun with that system.

Welcome to the TD computer club!  The real question is:   did YOU get your free steak dinner?  Did he personally deliver it to your house? :)

I never did, but every time I boot up my TD computer, I'm still amazed at how well it runs AH and regret all those years spent playing the game on a minimum specs system.  Taking this boards advice and calling Til Death was the best computer decision I ever made.

I went down to visit TD a couple of weeks ago (he is in Atlanta and I am about 60 miles north).  Interesting guy, good guy, who actually exists (yeah, I'm a cynic).  Boxes all over the place and systems in build up phase.  A week or so later I decided that I'd "had the course" trying to force AH on my Dell laptop with an external 19" monitor so I got a system from him.  Good decision.  I tried his patience with follow-up but he hung in there (I don't want to know how to build 'em, just want to use 'em).

I'm very comfortable that I got the system that fits ME at this point in time.  I'm a value guy - not looking for the absolute best at any cost - but the best at a realistic cost.  He optimized that WAY better than Dell or HP could have done.

Long story short, he is real, he is a good guy, and I glad I worked with him.

NOW...what's all this about a steak dinner....you never even MENTIONED that, Rich !!

LOL @ the Steak Dinner.  Pollock is also local.  As some of you know I don' currently drive because of an operation to my back.  Well the wife and kids were out of town and Pollock asked about some additional tweaking to his box.  He boxed his system up and came to the office and gave me a ride home, we stopped at a meat place and I got a few hand cut steaks.  All in all he asked if I ate like this all the time and I had to admit to him "yea we do",  the wife always buys fresh cuts and interesting sides for our meals.  Did I mention I am an excellent griller.

We tweaked and fiddled, ate then tweaked some more. I gave him a tour of our home and I think he liked the Media room with the overhead projector shooting onto a 11 x 5.5 screen (thinking of running a DVI to this for AHII) along with the xBox, Wii, PS2... all the kids crap. The dogs did not attack Pollock nor steal our food.  He went on his way another happy camper.

So in final thoughts... cab ride home from office $26.00~  Cost of steaks and sides, $32.00~.... in my opinion I made out by Pollock riding me home.  Pleasure of dealing with a customer, AHII player and now friend... priceless.

Pretty sweet!!

He must really get into the game to have a cushion to soften any jolts.

Pollock, bigger monitor is the way to go here.

Ok here are the specs:

Case:  NZXT Tempest TEM-001BK

Motherboard:  Gigabyte  GA-EP45T-UD3P

Processor: Intel  Core 2 Duo Processor E8400

Heat sink/Fan OCZ Vendetta Multiple Award Winning CPU cooler

Memory:  OCZ DDR3 1600 Platinum Intel Extreme XMP Edition 1600  /4GB

Video Card: EVGA GTX260

Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling 750Watt PC Power Silencer 750W Quad Blue PSU

Hard Disk: Western Digital 640GB Hard Drive

DVD Drive: Samsung  22x DVD +- RW Combo Drive

Operating System: Microsoft Vista Home Premium

The the experience so far?  Got the system Wed night and had to export my mail pst file to here today to get the specs to post.  Everything has worked perfectly and can't believe I have kept at budget level systems the whole time.  AHII with the hires pack is just awesome and the flow of the game is outstanding with a machine that can handle it.  Outside of AHII I mainly touch in Access databases and a little VB so I don't task it a whole lot.

Since the video card also has a HDTV out I was able to connect it to my plasma TV and watch my Netflix on demand without a pause.  My previous computer I used would causes pauses and some graphic imperfections, this handles it with no problem.  When TilDeath discussed building the system he made sure I understood what my future needs would be and not just get by today.  Thus I have a system where I may need to change out a video card or add memory and not worry about changing the system as a whole.  The pictures TilDeath posted of Pollocks case match mine but can't say the insides are the same.  Now my 19" monitor must be replaced; could hook up the 42" plasma and get the new Samsung LED TV???

Now just to get used to the Vista OS.

The angle of the shot makes it look smaller its a 24" viewsonic.  Funny you mention that costco has a 50 dollar off coupon for a hanns G 27 " thinking a return may be in order here too.

After I posted, I looked at my 24 inch at slightly to the side and thought hmmmm, I could be wrong here, that me be bigger than I thought.

Glad you are enjoying the machine. That is awesome. I have an e8400 and an e8500. The e8500 is for gaming. I may bump up the video card at some point.
