Manual Calibration

How about adding manual calibration back into the game. Not the kind that was in the game before where you had to had the cross hair over a certain point, I mean adding in a series of commands that allows us to set a certain alt and speed for bombing. I think it would help out with some of the easy mode of level bombing will adding to immersion of the game.

As a bomber pilot I'm torn on this...

Advantages:  Somewhat more realistic in terms of going through the motions.

Disadvantages:  Laser bomb sight becomes even more accurate because of existence of E6B.  Can literally dial in your numbers... 


I think the ideal method here would be dial in your numbers using dot commands or joystick inputs (similar to naval gunning), but a less accurate E6B (perhaps to the nearest 5 knts/mph.   This of course will not happen.

With E6B you can still dial in your numbers as it stands right now.

Take your pick.....either throttle or keyboard.

Sounds almost like our manual calibration, doesn't it?

Yes, I believe so. It also calculated atmospheric pressure as well as crosswinds. I think the Norden bombsight was used in the B29.

You don't plug in the numbers using the old manual calibration method. You track a point in the environment using your joystick.

Motherland I'm aware of that... I was responding to his suggestion to make it with plug and chug numbers...

I actually wouldn't mind having the old joystick manual calibration...I think it would be more fun.

Yea but I believe I read somewhere on the forums that the reason HT took it out is because it wouldn't be fair for the people who had lesser quality joysticks that weren't as precise as others. Many not have been his exact words but I was something alone that extent. The reason I think my idea would fit in, is because it has nothing to do with your joystick.

You think they dive bomb Lanc's, 24's, 26's and 17's now......make it harder to bomb and they will just dive to the target since there isn't anything to spend the bomber perks on anyway.  ;)

The idea isn't really to make it harder just add more to it, if you think about it once you get good at calibrating you will be able to do it quicker than holding down the Y key for 12 seconds. Besides the dive bombing heavy dweebs will always be there. That has nothing to do with the bombsites, it has to do with easily hitting GVs with a heavy bomber.

IMO... bombing is far too easy and the "carpet bombing" effect is almost nil.  In WWII, the bombers were not able to be as precise as we are now and hence the use of massed amounts of ord over a target "area" from teh large bombers vs the massed amount of ord on a single hanger as we do now.

If manual calibration forces us to use the bombers in a more historical manner (carpet bombing) for the desired effect... then go for it.
