My Story in AH (long and boring)
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:08:09 PM »

First of all, i want to advise you...this is going to be a long message and probably even boring to you.
I write this, so that in the future i'll have not to loose time (while im logged on,trying to have a nice fight), trying to explain my "point" to someone, i'll just tell him.... go read my story  :lol
So now, you are advised..is up to you to decide if you want to waste 10 min of your life reading this post. :D

Chapter I  :)
Years ago, i was playing PC games when i came across fly simulator. Bought some, liked them, did the misssions etc etc
One day, i was on the internet and i ended up on a webside of an Italian Virtual Squadron, there i found some info about AH, so i tought why not give it a try (first 2 weeks are free  :) )
A little note, besides my "experience" with Fly Simulator, the only other times i had something to do with planes, were when i had to visit my Family in Italy (i live in Denmark) or when i had to join my Ship some where in the World (at that time i was a seaman) or when, in 86 during the Military Service i jumped out from planes, with a chute of course  ;) .
So, i created an account, downloaded AH and etc etc....here i am in the hangar ready for action.
I take off, 2 min in the flight i see a con...engage..and ping ping ping im back in the tower, well to make it short this goes on and on and on.
I tell my wife, something is wrong with the stick i didnt calibrate well so i re calibrate, take of ...same result...now im getting p@@@@ off.
I tell my wife, these guys use some cheat codes they cant be so good, i always managed to kill the planes in the other games!!
I take off again...engage a con, first merge..where the hell did he goes? And ping ping ping back to square one.
So i tell my wife, well for sure it's not me, it's the stick or the pc or both and for sure those guys are using some cheap tricks.
Anyway, the 2 weeks are gone, i can't give up.. it's personal now.. i have to show those guys so i hang on.
Few weeks have gone, and still the same result, im boiling... i can't sleep...i dream fights...my wife tells me...Why don't you ask somebody?  ME?!?!?! Asking someone?!?! I can't....my English is not good enough and i'm shy (45 years old ) and i wont give "them" this sadisfaction :huh . My wife...
So, nothing really change, i still die big time..i cant understand...my plane don't turn like all the others, has not even the same speed...im close to give up, when one day i end up in the TA. Training Arena, uhm maybe some one here can help me  :huh
Well, i end up writeing with some one, don't remember who but that is not important...and he starts telling me about (not in special order)..the fuel...of course i have fuel,100% and sometimes even extra tanks..how much do you need to fly this damn plane? Ahhhh you don't need so much...Flaps..of course i use flaps..when i land.Ahhh you mean in the fight. Rudder...well i know it's on the tail....ahhh you mean using it in the fight..and so on, all kind of info EDB (easy), ACM,SA (), Split S, Scissors,Immelmann( :huh) i was lost Who the hell did he tought i was..an Aereonautical Engineer??!?! Not to loose face, i kept answering..yes..i understand..of course and so on till, he wrote... or you can go on the forum and read or watch some films. DO we have a Forum and Films? How dare them, they didn't call me home to tell me about that?!?! Well, i could have used some time reading the home page but it would have taken time, i didnt need that etc etc well i forgive them.  :D So i start reading...wow not all fighters act the same?! Well, of course more fuel and bombs ergo more weight ergo less manouvrability and so on and on.
Well, now i want to understand at least some, so i read and watch films, i even try to explain my wife ( with my hands how to do a SplitS or Scissors)..she couldn't care less. She says..it's just a game..JUST A GAME?!?! Ohhhh silly woman, this is not a GAME..this is life or death!!!
Now i'm haveing fun, i still get killed A LOT but i do kill someone too. I land my first kills wowow!!! I help takeing fields, i even help Bishland win the war!!!!!!
Months pass, i still read and watch films, i even observe others ACM :D So life goes on in the skies of AH, now im part of a squad, i have friends we have fun,we make Horde MIssions, we steal ports and their CV, we bomb towns and steal the SHEEP :D,we camp spawn points with our mighty Tigers, we VULCHHH, we take fields and win the war! Then it become less fun, slowly slowly...i took some time off came back, the same, more time off...then (i dont remember when) i came back..same story, i was bored so one day im flying around with a Niki and i meet a F6F well..we merge and start to "dance" , the dance goes on for around 5 min, none of us get a gun solution on the other, none of us fire a gun in the end i get jumped by another con. The F6f pilot, Salute me on 200, and add outstanding flying..well belive it or not, that was the changing point for me. I realized what i did like of the "game"..Did i like to win the war? Naaa.... To land 15kills and get 100 WTG??Nop... Have a score as number 5?? Naaa.....I changed, damn...i LOVED a good, long, clean 1vs1!!!!!!!!!!
Years have passed, i'm in a new squad, the 367thDynamite Gang, great group of guys, had lots of fun with them in the LA, but has it happened before i got tirred of the gameplay there. My Squad is in the FSO, but cause i live in Europe and work during weekends, i can't be part of it.I tried the different arenas,EW-MW-LW,AVA and SpecialEvents but the only place were i could/can get a quick fight was/is the DA
Now we get to the interesting part for you (the guy/guys i said to go and read my story) :D

Chapter II
I have been on and off AH/DA these last 3 or 4 years.
For different reasons, reasons connected to me being bored and to the REAL LIFE...my wife sickness (that MUCH MORE important that anyother thing), my daughter growing up,lost a job and found another, Family and friends and so on and on.
But i do come back...i do cause i like lots of the people i met in there and cause i like the FIGHTS, the good, long, clean 1vs1.
We are getting close....stay with me.....
Lately i spent most of the time i log on AH in the DA, it's the place were i can get what i need...a quick fight and lately lot's of good ones. During my time in the DA, i met "good" and "bad" people, "good people" meaning that they don't jump me or anyother allready engaged in a 1vs1 fight just to land a kill. "Bad people" meaning people that ONLY pick, gang,HO,run when alone, just to land a kill. That said, i want to point out that i called only once one person for a loser and i regreted it and apologized, in this case i didn't call you any names or did i ever said that i was a better stick than you, that was not my point. I said...you PICKED me...you GANGED on me, you HO'ed me, and i do know by now (after all my readings and watching films) that these were tactics used in WWII, but we are NOT in WWII, are we? We are not protecting a beach head or a REAL life of a squad mate?! Someone could say now, why don't you call out for a 1vs1? I did and do sometimes, but not all times, most of the times i fly close to one of the 2 enemy fields (away from the middle of the lake) and wait for someone to appear. Lots of times i have good 1vs1, can't mention now all the "good people" i met there but funny enough THIS person always show up when im ALLREADY engaged, and funny enough the only manouvres he does are the above mentioned over and over again.
Now, i didn't insult you i just stated what YOU were doing in that particular moment,in that particular day with that particular plane.
You said i was whining, i don't think so but ..hey..we all have different points of view. People like you, during my time in the MA/DA, called me names, dared me to bet my account( how funny is that),told me they had a better score than mine even started pointing out what Italians did in WWII.... well i wont go that low, i'm too "old" and (sorry my arrogance) too intelligent.
So, we are close to the end (i'm sorry again guys to have wasted your time).....well my point was ..you could have waited me to finish my fight, you could have asked me a 1vs1.Even if everyone does it (not true ..i dont), you had a choise, and when i said TA would be could for you, i didn't mean it in a bad way, i have been there belive me, you will get a kick out of a nice, clean, good 1vs1 fight.
I'm allways up for a good fight, i don't care about landing kills (i die all the times..or killed or crash cause i'm out of fuel) i dont run either no matter which plane i fly ( i can allways get another)..i landend kills yesterday just to show my DA squad name TheFluffySheepLover :). I hope you understand my point, if not...well at least we can agree we disagree.

A big Salute to All :salute

Yeah, there are lots of idiots in the game and sadly you are meeting them.  The DA is chock full of them now.  However it's good you like the fight, if you see me on ask for a round and I'll duel you. :)

Nice reading, BTW  ;)

Great story Iena, I think you hit the nail on the head for a lot of us players.  I fly in the DA a lot for a couple of reasons, the main one is for the almost instant action.  What stands out to me the most about your story is how you "grew up" in the game.  Remember, a lot of those in the DA are "growing up" right now and will eventually tire of the same old stuff and will either become better AH gamers (those who respect other players and look for the good fight vs numbers and pats on the back) or they will become bored and move on.  We will always have them with us, nothing can change that.  They need their time to develop and grow.  I find there are much more of the "good people" in this game then there are "bad" and I know it's tempting to retaliate verbally, I see it on 200 all the time.  I find it's better to ignore them or better yet, kill them with kindness.  A <S> and a quick joke (even if undeserved) really goes farther to opening a door to help someone rather than toasting them with wit and insults (not to imply that this is what you have done, I see others do it all the time). Here's hoping you all the best in the game and to your family and a great big  :salute to a two time vet (military and AH).
