what's the best ticket you've ever received?
« on: June 15, 2009, 09:28:20 AM »
And by best, I mean absurd...

I parked my car for a couple of hours in a public lot on friday and returned a few hours later to find a ticket. I was immediately confused, assuming it was for a meter violation--although the meter period ends after 6 pm--which was when i parked. I looked at the ticket, and got only more confused.

Nothing to do with the meter, it turns out, but expired tags. But I could have sworn my plates expired in July--and last I checked, we're still in June. Nevertheless, the note on the ticket clearly reads: "tags exp'd in may".

Before I even have the chance to walk around my car to confirm the date, I notice the vehicle description at the bottom of the ticket, and within it, a description of my plates: "Expiration Date: jul/2009." Clear as day.

Talk about an open and shut case. Too bad the court doesn't reimburse us lowly citizens for frivolous citations.

When I lived in Cleveland(one of the suburbs called Bay Village), I actually got a ticket for my lawn not being cut, even though I had just cut it the day before and the ticket was written for 2 days later......? :huh

I got pulled on I-80 in 1994 about 50 miles west of Elko NV in my Ford Ranger. I was heading out to CA for ET school and the wind that morning was blowing straight out of the west and I had to keep my foot buried to the floor just to keep the truck at 65mph. Came down into a small valley and all of a sudden I'm doing almost 90mph. Figured I'd keep it in the floor since I was going to pop back up into the wind. Well right as I crested the hill there's a cop sitting in the median. I looked in the mirror as I passed by and say the lights come on, so I just pulled over before the cop even got turned around. Female cop, pretty good looking too, pulls up as I'm leaning against the tailgate with my paperwork in hand. Here's how the conversation went.

Her, "Good morning sir, do you have any idea how fast you were going back there?"
Me, "Yes ma'am, around 80-90mph coming over the hill."
Her, "Clocked you at 84mph."
Me, "yes ma'am, sorry about that but up here on the high ground in this wind I have to keep it to the floor just to maintain 65mph, so when I went down into that little valley I just kept my foot in it."
Her, "OK I can understand that. Where you wearing your seatbelt sir?"
Me, "No ma'am I wasn't."
Her, "Well at least your honest, I'm going to give you a break. Here's a $15 ticket for wasting fuel."
Me, "Wasting fuel? What the hell is that?"
Her, "I can give you the $250 speeding ticket if you like."
Me, "No ma'am, that quite alright, wasting fuel, got it, thank you very much."

That one blew me away.

When I was in college I was coming back into town from visiting my parents for the weekend.  I  was sitting at a stoplight when a cruiser came through the 4-way from a completely different direction.  He made a u-turn and got behind me. As soon as the light turned green he hit his lights.  When he came to the window he said he clocked me at 65 in a 50.  Mind you I'm sitting at a light and he came from a different road.  Not a parallel road but off of a bridge from across the river.  I didn't know radar guns were accurate up to 1/4 mile and through buildings...... :huh

I was a delivery driver in town.  The parking lot the business in had a bar, a nice restaraunt, and a nail place in the same center so parking was *always* a b*tch.  One night I came back from a run, and there was literally no parking in the lot.  Well,  no big deal, I see delivery people park on the street all the time, so I pull out to the main street and hop up on the curb so I'm not impeding traffic.   I run inside(the car is 10 feet from the front door of the business) and grab some deliveries/get change etc etc....taking about 10 minutes tops.  I come outside....and find a $50 ticket on my windshield! For "obstructing the flow of traffic".  Now if I did the crime blah blah blah whatever, but I had seen trucks/cars/etc do the same damn thing for much much longer than I was there.  It was just the nerve to give me a ticket 10 feet outside of the store, *with* the businessses cartop on my car that got me.  A simple hoot inside that I couldn't park there would have been easier, quicker, and less of a pain than writing a ticket.  Not to mention the guy that monitors the parking around town ate in the store atleast once a week.

Back when I bartended on campus one night I found an awesome parking spot right against the building near the dumpster where no one could hit me.  At the end of the night I found a ticket on the windshield for parking within 10 feet of a dumpster on an alley.  It turns out the bar owner had recently called the city to complain about people blocking his dumpster at night.

I used to get more than 100 tickets a week. I didn't keep them to myself though, I just gave them away.
