I'm waiting for the 88mm. Let's see how close them IL-2 can come in with player-manned 88mm flaks protecting the GVs.

Aren't (weren't) 88mm flaks a high altitude gun?  Don't they have a minimum effective range?  Don't IL-2s, and most aircraft for that matter, fly predominantly below that minimum range?

Exactly.

I think many players do just have our 5" ship guns in mind when it comes to the 88 Flak.
The first and biggest difference is - the 88 had no proximity fused shells. They had timed fuzes, which were (in the field) mostly set according to distance estimation by optical instruments or (mostly on the homefront, or behind frontlines) by radar readout.  That's much less accurate than our point-n-shoot proximity fuses.
The 88 (and other heavy flak guns) were used against targets cruising at altitudes or shooting barrages at predeteminated altitudes. It was not a very efficient weapon against fast & maneuvering targets on the deck, which is what our Il-2's do almost exclusively. (In real live they would often travel in formations at higher altitudes, being again targets for heavy flak). The weapons of choice against Tiefflieger - low level bombers and Jabos - were light & medium flak guns: Mostly 20mm & 37mm. When those proved themselves as not capable enough, 50 & 55mm flak guns were developed.

I have scored direct hits on T34's with the YAK-9T's 37mm gun, aftewards the T34 drove off as if nothing ever happened.

Based on my game experiences a single pass gun kill on a T-34 is not possible.

Conclusion invalid. Because you were using the wrong tool for the job, it doesn't mean that it's completely impossible at all.
Try a Il-2 with 37mm or even better: A B-25H.

Best to explain to the lad why.
Yak T = HE
IL-2= AP

Do you think I made those videos up?

Practice flying IL2s, practice making attack runs at a 30% to 40% angle "preferably from the rear".

Map your 2nd stage trigger to only fire your secondary gun and then get in close and put 1 to 4 2 shot volleys in the upper rear of the hull, theres even a thin piece of armor in the top front of the hull. And like all tanks the top of the turret is thin.

Heres what the IL2 can do against the thin parts of a Panzer-lVs armor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBMi7AoLzNo At least when their air cover abandons them and their flak. :D

aPic heres a T-34 from today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xtIci9Ob6U

You'll notice only 10 shots were fired, 3 of which were money shots. 2 of which went thru the top of the turret, the first good hit went thru the chassis top right at the turret. When you hit a tank, get yellow, and then get red, then your in the sweet spot.

I doubt any of us could kill a T-34 while in a P-39. That Colt 37mm not only didnt fire AP rounds but also didnt have much velocity.

I cant vouch for B-25Hs cause I dont fly them much. I know in real life they carried AP rounds tho we dont have them in the game. I bet if we did, and shooting from the angles an airplane can, the 25H would be a real Tank killer. It probably is anyways.

I should learn to fly it better since I admire it so much. :salute

Poor Tiger drivers. :D Want to see something funny? Just let somone say a Tiger is in the area and you'll have 30 planes and Gvs crashing down on them. Thats why I dont fly IL-2s into GV base vs GV base fights, or dont normally.

Why not show a little respect back to the tank drivers ad let them have their fights free of airborne tank killers.
