Who would you say is the Number 1 vulch squad in each country?
The whole vulching discussion turns into a meatball throwing flame fest everywhere you go.

I/JG27 could end up being #1 for Knights...try to up from a capped field and you will probably get vulched...for that matter, if anyone is dumb enough to try and fly out of a capped field, they're asking for it.

As for real life vs virtual world...there are always limits to the amount of reality people are willing to deal with...the majority of people in flight sims want as much reality as they can get...if that means associating certain tactics as legitimate because it was done in real life...it doesn't deserve a flame post in reply...I'm sure if you actually lost your life when you die in the game, there wouldn't be as many people playing it and those that do wouldn't be very eager to leave the hangar.

I've never been a "good vulcher" (although some people will atest to that). If I vulch I have a good reason too, firstly, I helped deack the feild, take out town and such. When we are tring to take a base, that will be when you see me vulch. I honestly like "Air Vulching" better. Squaddie name it because your killing people low and slow.

It depends on how you see and play the game.  Some people just like the fight of combat simulators, some people like the whole picture of taking bases and winning a war, I would think most are somewhere in the middle.

Like it or not, vulching is an effective tactic at keeping the area clear of enemies to take a base.  I can understand that it gets annoying when people aren't even working on the town, just looking for an easy kill but what good comes from whining about it.

If you don't like the vulching going on at a base 1) don't take off from that base or 2) stop whining and find a way to break the vulch.

I'd also like to add that it also pisses the other guy off, which in my book is a very good reason to vulch.

The problem I have with it, is the guys saying 'well if you up from a capped field, then you are asking for it."

I question what they are doing hanging over a field just waiting for a vulch.  I'm hard pressed to believe that the vets in particular, haven't gotten further then this in their thinking.  "I do it because I can" doesn't say much to me about the caliber of the player doing the vulching.

If that's the mentality, then folks better stop griping about bomber pilots dive bombing hangers etc.  And if it's to get your name in lights for landing 10 'kills', I feel sorry for ya too.

What an absolute waste of time if you aren't going to challenge yourself to be a better cartoon pilot.  And if you don't want to 'fight' against other players, what's the point.

At least the guys trying to get up from those fields are attempting to fight.  I've got a lot more respect for those guys.

I rarely find the opportunty to vulch so infrequently that its a shock to my system and I auger. Vulching can be fun, I don't look for them, but if they happen I try to get in on the action, depending on the circumstance. If my side is trying to take the field for some reason, ill vulch a bit to keep em down. But if we re not there for capture, let em up and fight.

I don't know how it works in AH but, if your team is trying to take over a field, the fighters who are flying cap should be there for 2 reasons...1 to suppress enemy activity over or on the field and allow the bombers to do their jobs...2 to repel enemy counter attack...until the field is taken.

Pretty simple military tactical strategy for victory.

Otherwise, if the field isn't under attack to be taken over, then yeah...it's just someone waiting for a vulch.

The guys that up from the capped field need the vulcher as much as the vulcher needs them, upping from a capped field is acceptable in that I get what I want which is instant action a challange and the enemy coming to me rather than me chasing after them, in a lot of ways I don't have the patience for certain aspects of Aces High. The vulcher gets what they want out of it constant kills score and wtgs. I used to do a lot of preachy 200 ranting against it but people like me cause it and need it to get what they want out of the game.  :rock

What is it about vulching that appeals to those that do it?

Sometimes it's fun to shoot sitting duckies, never as much fun as shooting the flying ones.

You'll have to ask pacerr if you want a true answer from someone who only shoots sitting duckies.

Methinks a vulch is the typical and normally necessary endgame to an Air Superiority struggle. Fights seem to start high in the middle, drop low in middle and migrate towards losing side due to  numbers or sheer awesomeness of the winning side. Just part of the cycle.  I also think that upping during an air raid is somewhat unrealistic (given the human condition) unless your name is Saburo Sakai.  LOAC would be cool with a vulch. (I always let them get up, never on rwy)  It is rather annoying to see one side vulch for a half hour and simply leave without taking the base.  It demeans the efforts of the losers as well as the winners. At least let your opponent's death have some meaning--it's akin to walking into the forest, shooting 20 bucks and simply walking out...
