If I remember right that's the Prandtl–Glauert singularity which isn't breaking the sound barrier, but rather when it's traveling at transonic speeds. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :D

need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Very well could have been, transonic is mach 0.8 - 1.2. The vapor cone you see there though is from the Prandtl–Glauert singularity. The vapor cone, regardless, has been seen as breaking sound barrier for some reason, when the vapor cone will appear mach 0.2 before breaking the sound barrier.

Just got off my lazy bum and researched it. Here's the wiki on it...

Well then I guess this MD-11 is breaking the sound barrier too!

The MD-11 shows water vapor forming in the area of low pressure on top of the wing under high humidity conditions.

There will be local shock waves forming on a plane in the transonic regime.  A shock wave is a sudden change in pressure.  This is what appears to be happening in the F-22 photo.

The term "breaking the sound barrier" is out dated.  Airflow around an airplane varies with geometry.  The discussion needs to be around Mach numbers, air pressure and humidity.

Where can I get some more books?

Can I but them from an Amway salesman?

Cool pic, Junky.     Hope you are enjoying the Kim-Chi  :aok

I've got one of those but zoomed in close and clear enough to see the shockwaves in the air itself, without any humidity.  Can't find it though.
