My suggestion on the validity of "chips" to be earned, quickly denegrated into a spitting match about which planes should get Perked, and a whole bunch of people saying they would quit if any sort of merit system were introduced. Also, my beloved Bearcat was shot down as a what-if 1946 bird, even though it was enroute to a theater in 1945.
Anyhow, here's a better idea:
The game as far as usage as peaks and valleys depending on what timezones roll into after hours.
Do this:
Make a rolling planeset, not per week, as WB did, but every 12 hours. Start at 1943 and go to Dec. 1945. I'd require study to make sure we were set up somewhat evenly, a couple early P-38 variants would be needed, but we could add the Bearcat, the Yak-3, the Spit XIV, and so on.
The interesting thing is the use of the already introduced single sortie refuel/rearm system. A great pilot could get a Spit XIV and fly it for HOURS, even after 1945 had rolled back to 1943, by simply re-arming and refueling it and not getting out of it.
I think this would make it truly "Aces High", and may make some players upset, having to chase a awesome Spit XOV driver around in P-40Es, but the dynamics would be really interesting.
Most importantly, I think it would really bring the sides together more as teams. Right now, there is almost no coordination possible, as there is really very little use for it. Some people want to after A9 attackin Knights, while others want to go hit the Bish HQ, blah blah blah.
A RPS on a 2-a-day roll would make the game require some sort of teamwork. It would make pilots REALLY try and keep streaks alive, and encourage a more historical "I want to not die" type of flying.
Then, having the Spit XIV or not is moot. It saw service at this date, it shows up. You may need to wait an hour to see the plane to counter it, well, tough toejam, the Spit XIV may see alot of sorties that hour.
I'd like to see this in a different arena with the WB arena idea of two sides, Axis and Allied. It would be a great arena to fly in.
