1 v 1 annual tournament
« on: July 06, 2009, 10:44:30 AM »
Scenario:

$5 for qualification phase.
$20 for the final 32 in the tournament.

In the tourney, 8 groups of 4 players round robin.  Best 2-3 duals.
Best 2 advance.
Final 16 in knock-out stages, best 2-3
Championship round, best 3-5

Total $640
1st place $400
2nd place $240

I am saving the details for later if the community likes this idea but this would be sanctioned by HiTech.  This would bring back old-sticks that are very good and give motivation for them to play again.

Make it for free...  Perhaps have someone donate a plaque or such to the winner, like in KoTH TOC.

Offering cash prizes will make this a less friendly event participated in for all the wrong reasons...

We need a 1 v 1 tourney badly. It's the one special event we don't have.

I'd absolutely love a 1v1 tournament, but I don't think I agree with the cash aspect either.

I like it. But I, too, have a feeling cash prizes would do more harm than good

Why is the cash a bad idea??

It means an incentive for everybody to come out.  If it is just the "spirit" of the game, not all stick are going to show up.  In terms of bad gamesmenship, that's why there is film right?

I'll be there though.  I got my $5 to qualify.  :)

With a cash prize type tournement, u get all the bad karma that comes with it.  This person cheats because he warped, I want my money back.  Somethings like this along with alot of other things will go wrong with it.  That is why it should be free, No harm, no foul, who cares type event.

A prize would be cool if HTC wanted to get involved and make it a bracketed tournament.  Whether that be a plaque or a free month or something along those lines.  Nobody should have to put up extra money though to do it.  But I agree, a 1v1 dueling event is needed!

I feel the cash is a bad idea as well.  But, if you must put money up front I would suggest every sortie be filmed.  This way no one can scream warp, cable puller, stick stirring and the like.   The only goofy thing you can get away with is if the person disco's.   That happens alot anymore with me and I imagine others as well.
