Flaps and version 1.08

Okay, Pyro said there are flap issues to be addressed. He didnt specificly mention fowlers but I think we're hoping for the correct lift to drag ratio to be inputed...?

I'm wondering how pep's think this will effect the performance of say the P-38. I read somewhere, prob this board   :), that a normal flap has 28 or something percent drag for 18 percent lift. Fowlers have 18 percent lift for 18 percent drag... a 1 to 1 ratio.

I personaly dont see this really helping the 38's turning ablity. I do see it helping its E management considerably. You'll be able to hit those flaps more notchs and retain your e better thus both having a tighter turn AND keeping your speed/e better?

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

I think you will see a marked improvement in A/C that use flaps to enhance turn performance ie. the P-51, P-38, F4U and yes even the NIK2 but more because of the speed in which the stall occurs. Right now all of these A/C should be flyable anywhere from 10 to 30MPH lower than they currenty are. This translates into a significantly better turning A/C at speeds from about 150MPH on up.

1.08 could be the most significant change since 1.4. We shall see...

So the N1K2-J will possibly turn better? Hehehe, can't wait for that!  ;)

Yep, it will also mean the N1k will have DRAG for once. Auto butterfly flaps created lotsa drag on that thing, I do believe the n1k should be an excellent performer, but once it is fixed it should not be able to do 12g flat turns while losing 20mph and then zooming up as if nothing had happened.

And P-38? Heehee, below 20k the flaps would only help it at really slow fights, but above 20k, beware the twin tailed zeke!

BTW, F4UDOA, do you happen to have/know if the 38 had a tendency to snap roll/spin whenever on a low g turn/plane banked with no pull up on stick when you deploy flaps? Been reading furiously on every pilot account and whatever comes across me and I only see reference to snap rolls on very high-G turns or when an engine was out or when a flap failed to deploy. Seems to me the 38 here spins to that snap roll very easily. Before I got my rudder pedals it was impossible to prevent the spin since I could not react fast enough to prevent the spin. But I wonder... please prove me wrong if possible
