The 109f simply rocks. How come so very few LW guys fly it? Maybe most ma guys expect a g6 or 10 and you can easily reverse on them so it might be better that so few fly it. FUN all round in the 109f.
Anyway S! Franz

Its good, but it can't even run by diving from level flying P-51

and those who finds out that its F4 and not G10, will run away as soon as they find it out, if they do.

It can out-climb and out-run all the Spitfires in AH(F.IX only below 20k though).

Below 15K I think most of the planes here can out-run a Spit... especially a SpitV or II.  Maybe not a Zero, but most everything else.

I fly the F4/R6 alot. Interestingly enough, most of my kills in it are P-51's.

I fly the F and love it, but it is only suitable in a small margin of environments- a relatively small crowd, for instance. You don't have enough of a clip to fight your way out of a big mess, and you certainly won't run away. Other than that the F has always had a spot in my heart.

Of course I always fly alone- no squad affiliations- so though I can often find friendly a/c nearby I try to fly with the assumption I will have to make my own way out of trouble. In packs the F could cause a lot of trouble for about anything.

I fly the 109f almost exclusively. Drop tank and gondolas. It turns the best of the 109's even with the gons.

Gosh.. for some reason I make more kills in 109 with just one 20mm instead of 3 20mm's ..

S!

The 109F4 was the pinnacle of 109 developement.  It retained all the positive maneuverability aspects of the E model, while performance in the area of climb and speed was substantially increased.  The 109F was devastatingly effective against the now obsolescent Hurricane, the P-39, various P-40 series, the I-16, Lagg-3, Mig-3, Yak-1 and even the Spitfire V had a difficult time against F's flown agressively using altitude based team tactics.  In a 1941 arena, the 109F would be at the top.

All the 109's after the F suffered increasingly from too much weight and speed for the original wing and airframe design to deal with really successfully.  In fact, the 109F was supposed to be the last of the breed, being replaced by the Me309.  Unfortunately for the Germans, in late 1940 Hitler, Goering and Milch scuttled the developement of the Me309 in the early stages on the assumption that the war was won and further aircraft designs would be unnessesary.  If you take a look at the Me309 design, you may be surprised to see how much it resembles the P-51.
