Wait, I dont get it, if he was burried before and then was moved how did they know it was him???

The story never said how he was missing and how he was found.... im at a loss

and a big ol'  :salute to the fighter pilot

I wish they would assign reporters who at least had a little bit of a clue about military aviation to these stories:

My assumption (since its near Pensacola) is that they were T-45 Goshawk trainers, not the 'Goose Hawk fighter jets' as stated.

He was buried as an unknown.  The folks helping the family were able to track the story to the unknown in the grave and with DNA testing they were able to confirm in was McVay.

They didn't have DNA testing way back when obviously so it was impossible to confirm and ID.  Now it's possible.  I've been tracking a bomber crew and it's 6 MIAs since the early 90s.  I got as far as five of them 'co-mingled' in a grave and I know which of the 6 MIAs were there.  The remains were recovered at some point and reburied as MIAs.  I've not been able to track them any further then the original grave they were buried in.  If I could ever find where the recovered remains went, I could ID five more MIAs and bring them home.  Someday....
