My New Desktop
« on: July 15, 2009, 05:07:37 PM »
Firstly, I love space. Especially games with Star Wars type stuff and big ships. As a result Ive bought and fallen in love with a game called Sins of a Solar Empire. I downloaded a program called Stardock to buy it, and Stardock has many other games MUCH cheaper than retail and direct download. One thing it gave me for free was a program to customize desktops, and the Sins of a Solar Empire desktop for free. So, here is my new desktop:

Just thought I would show it off. Too bad there isn't one for Aces High...

Some of those ships seem to be enhanced replicas of Microsoft's Free Allegiance.

Nice desktop.

That game bored me to tears. And considering I play EVE, that's no small feat.

that game has been taunting me from store shelves for a while now.  I've been looking for a successor to the Homeworld games; how does it compare?  Looks similar but with an added macro/strategic level of play.

Looks like I come in right about at the minimum system requirements, too.  :)

Great game, one of my favorites. Buy it from Stardock though, it's much cheaper and comes with free stuff like that background. If you really wanna try it, PM me.

ooh, good stuff moot.  Bookmarked it for next time I'm bored.  :)

Serenity, that stardock thing looks like the same price as buying it from the developer's website.

I would rather wait for Fleet Commander 2, Diaspora. or Fate of the Galaxy (Fan made Star Wars game) as all three look amazing, BSG or Star Wars related, and free. I get bored to death by real-time strategy games, which might explain why the games I suggested are based off the FS2 engine, which is a space shooter. Hard-light Productions is the pretty much the main center of operations with the FS2 Modding community, and they host some pretty good games too. If you don't mind the idea of a space shooter, I would recommend The Babylon Project, based on Babylon 5 and hosted at Hard Light Productions.

Just trying to give you options.

Check out jumpgate.  Jumpgate 2 should be out in the next couple months since the release date got pushed.

The original jumpgate was fun so the 2nd should be as well.

umm.. sorry but jumpgate was de-evolved into a crappy shooter before it even went live. I still can't believe they dropped the almost realistic newtonian flight engine for something that felt like wing commander 2. ugh ><

Sins of a Solar Empire.. ive seen lots of videos but is there a demo? Right now for me the space sims seem split between X3 and Sins.

Unfortunately I already gave away my extra copy of Sins. There MIGHT be a demo, but I doubt it. It's a GREAT game though and definitely one of my favorites. Enough that I shell out $10 every time theres an expansion pack, and I am always glad I did!
