My friend's box is dead

When he turns it on, it shuts off after a couple seconds.  He swapped out the power supply, it makes a short beep followed by a long beep, and then nothing, no bios, nada.  I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff, but I would guess his mobo is dead?  Any other ideas?

Every motherboard has it's own beep codes. So you'll have to figure out what motherboard he has, then figure out what beep code it is producing. That should put you in the right direction of the issue.

I should mention that I didn't even know what a beep code was until now, as I'm yet to have a computer die on me (crosses fingers).  Now we'll know what to look for.

If he still has it, or ever did for that matter, the motherboard manual should have the beep codes in them. If it's something like a pre-made box (I.E. Dell, Compaq, Etc) then I believe they list those on their site for each specific motherboard.
