Well not saying it will work for everyone but it worked for me so far. I did a fresh install and cut back to 512 textures, and now I'm able to go fight without a huge FR hit and lots of stuttering.
I'm managing to get 50-60 FR in normal flight and maybe drop down to 40-ish in a furball. All of my viewing sliders are now back to the position I had them for the previous version and the terrain is looking good. Knowing my luck I should have stayed quiet just in case it goes downhill again tomorrow!

Still getting the stuttering problem although it has improved since the patch.
I tried the 'Flip queue size' changes some suggested but no change to stutter from those changes.

Here is a sollution that works for me , eliminating strutters that occurs ever 3-5 second :

AMD Opteron 185
2 gig ram
nvidia 8800gts  320 meg ram

Start AH2 . go into video settings - change max texture to something else from what you have / or want .
Change max texture settings back to what you want / had

Now my machine is struttering free !!!!!
why  ? - ask someone else  :)

from pyro news thread

The new patch is now available now.  This should resolve the major stuttering issues that many people have been experiencing.  On low end systems, it may take a little longer in this version before all the textures are fully loaded.  There's still a few more changes that HT wants to make in this area to make things a bit cleaner and quicker.

A lot of people have reported issues with degraded texture quality even when using the high res texture pack.  That is unchanged in this patch but we expect that to be changed in the next patch.

If you are using Vista, please remember to run the game as an administrator prior to using the autoupdater so that the installation doesn't fail.

Though this may have been mentioned before...my apologies: I have noticed that the option to pre-load textures into memory is no longer in the new version, or if it is I haven't seen it. In the previous version I would get stutters and hesitant frames and when I activated the pre-load option...it went away. But now that option seems to be no longer available. Wonder if the new version does this automatically or what.

Also...I did defrag the HD and it did seem to help with the stutters I get sometimes. My FR is about 45-115 give or take.
