Right, hence the appellation "ensign eliminator."  Moreover, from what I've read, the P-51 had a nasty tendency to stall without warning until you accrued some time in it.
one of the guys at our rc club flew ponys in the war. one of the things he used to say, was that they burned off the fuel in the aft fuselage tank first, as it was difficult to fight if it was full.

By the end of the war, that's all they had left.
You need to read some history.

You need to read some history.

And you need to get off your horse, it's no higher than anyone elses.  I was making a joke to cap1's statement.  But toward the end of the war in the pacific, the japanese were very low on experienced pilots.
Amazing you could actually recruit that much suck into one squad.

No, I stupidly characterized spitfires with the Japanese.  Been a long week already.

Actually, what made the Spitfire such an amazing plane was that it was aerodynamically stable enough for KIDS to fly them in defense of their country... so, Spitfires really WERE for kids, as were most American planes...

They did not apply to the Spit XIV.  We're talking about the very much different Spitfire I/II, and yes guys were going operational with 20 or less hours in them, mainly out of desperation during the tail end of the B of B.  Johnnie Johnson, who ended up high scoring RAF ace had roughly 20 when he went to his first squadron.

Spit XIV was not that kind of bird.
