Cyclic stutter
« on: July 31, 2009, 10:03:34 AM »
I'm getting a cyclic stutter. Every 1.8 seconds, there is a frame freeze that lasts, perhaps, 100 milliseconds. It is extremely annoying. I didn't have this the first night of the new release. It appeared the second night, prior to the latest patch.

It does not occur offline.

I have reset my cable modem and I don't see variance in the cable connection to Optimum. I may copy all my settings folders and do a fresh install.

I was curious if anyone else has encountered this type of stutter.

Thanks,

Widewing

The problem was on my end....

I did my standard troubleshooting. Run directly from the modem... No cyclic stutter. That isolated the issue to the router. So, I switched to an unused port and reloaded the game. No cyclic stutter. Flakey router port... I will invest in a replacement Linksys should it happen again.

I have exactly the same, consistant stutter, but I run straight through a Qwest DSL modem.  Game is unplayable as is.  Any guidance on solution?  And I mean, if the fix is on my side, I'll need step-by-step instructions.

Thanx.

I thought the problem was resolved...Logged on later in the day and the cyclic stutter had returned. It is unplayable. I will try swapping routers, but I don't have any confidence that it will change anything.

If it isn't game related, then I'll need a cable tech to check the line for any issue.

Try the game with detailed terrain unchecked and see what happens.

Not a saw tooth, but a tiny, rhythmic pattern that gains in amplitude, then dissipates. It does not seem to correspond to the stutter, but there may be a lag delay on what I see through the game.

Tomorrow, I'll call Optimum and have a Tech check out the line to the house. He should see the pattern if its a cable issue. It could be a modem problem as well. I'll have that checked out before I invest in a new router.

In the meantime, I'm down for game play.

Last night, after trying some different settings, I reset textures from 256 back up to 512.  Strange, but the rythmic stuttering seemed to stop.  I stil got random or intermittent stutters every 10 to 20 secs.

Then I went to a base with other people around.  Got thoroughly hosed on screen.  Like trying to fly in a slow-motion strobe light sequence of a B-flick movie.  Delay and lag and visual head ache.  Squadmate was exactly the same problem.  This was over TT with only a half dozen in the air and maybe 2 dozen on the ground.

Went in and dropped all terrain effects, all skins, turned down graphic detail, anything and everything that might ease the data transfer load.  Then spent 10 minutes to see if it would improve and still hosed.

It's not longer cyclic stuttering, it's stuttering and freezing and lagging with any and every input.

Need real help.

Speaking of ports... have they changed in any matter with the new version from the old port numbers?

1. I have had no noticeable problems until the 3 patch....Now i am getting the stutter/mini screen freeze..... The only time i notice is right when i pull the trigger in a tank. screen freezes longenough for the other tank to be right in the middle of the explosion when it comes back.........

2. OH ya i got the white screen of death for the first time. went to hit a key on key board and poof...

3.The radio text box completely disappeared. I was able to type hit enter and it would post on channel 200, but i could not see the text as I was typing it in the radio txt box.

<S> other than that haveing a blast and the graphics are sharper and clearer than the old AH :aok :salute

A friend of mine is having the same problem and I've been working with him to try and resolve it.  It does not seem to be network related as the problem happens in both on-line and off-line arenas.

I called the cable company and they recommended the usual silliness. "Replace the splitter". It wasn't the splitter as I ran the cable directly to the modem. I asked him to reprogram the modem through the cable. He didn't know how to do that, but found someone who did.

As of 10 minutes ago, the spurious signal is gone. Now we'll see if it lasts.
