P-38's

I have just started flying the P-38's and I have a buvh of questions like is it better B&Z fighter or a turnfighter should it be kept high or low should you dive on the enemy or wait for him to become level with you is it fast or slow what manuvers should be done in it those are all of my questions and If you can can someone who is really good in P-38s help me

A lot of what you ask is dependent on the situation.  If you can be more specific on the situation, then we'll be able to give more specific answers.

i just logged out from the ta. spent some time in there just furballing around, then snaphook came in. i think it was over an hour he spent with me....as i think i was being a little thickheaded on some things he was trying to explain.

 all in all.....it was probably the best time i've spent. he got a lot through to me in that time.

 go in the ta ace. if you can hook up with delerium, i hear he's one of the best. any of the trainers can help ya. if i happen to be in there, i'll try to pass on the little i know......it might not be up to par with some of these guys, but it can get ya started.

 the thing with the 38(to me anyway) is that it is a much harder plane to fight in than say a spit, zeek, hellcat, c205, etc.

 stick with her, and you'll be rewarded greatly. when i turnfight in my 38, and score a kill, i feel sooooo much better than that same kill in my zeek or hellcat.

The thing that strikes me about the P-38 that I think makes it somewhat tricky to transition to is that it's trump card is somewhat unusual. What I'm thinking when I say trump card is it's ability to work the vertical and do so with remarkable stability.  What makes that tricky in my mind is that if you do it wrong or misjudge the E state of your opponent you're basically leaving yourself hung out to dry.  It's an advantage that is real but requires accurate judge of the opponents E which is something that takes time to develop.  Otherwise you have a plane that is reasonably fast but can be run down by a lot of the more popular rides in the MA, can turn fairly well under the right conditions but can be out turned by many of the popular rides in the MA.  

Someone told me once that the 38 punishes bad ACM decisions and I think there is some truth to that, certainly the 38 is not alone in that regard but it doesn't have the power to recover from those mistakes like say a LA-7 can.

what i've always felt about the 38?

 she doesn't really do any single thing spectacular. what she DOES do, is she does everything pretty well. used in the right combinations, this i think is what makes the 38 so deadly. it's also what makes her so hard to learn, because doing the wrong thing, will as you mentioned, cost ya....big time.

If your around friendlies the cons will generally come to you first. That equals less hunting to do for a fight.
