My thoughts for Bomber Perk use
« on: August 02, 2009, 06:31:38 PM »
Everyone probably has thousands of bomber perks built up (except for the new players), and everyone asks for a new bombers that would be perked. Here's my thoughts for use of bomber perks.

How about HT perks all Heavy Bombers we have now, and ones that will be added (B-24, B-17, Lancaster)?? One guy can up a formation of B-24's or B-17's, and can take out all the FH's at a small base or medium base or all 3 VH's at a vehicle bases rendering these bases almost unprotectable! A skilled Lancaster pilot can drop all the FH's on a Large field even (may take a few passes, but it's been done before). Seems highly unfair, or unlikely, that 1 guy can do these things. Sure everyone can go for the bombers, but rarely succeed in killing them with the "radar guided" gunners we have, or if there are enemy escorts around to help the bombers.

If we perk all Heavy bombers then I really see no downside to it:

-Medium and Light bombers will be used more
-Bomber perks can be used on more than just the 234
-It will require multiple players in Medium/Light bombers to destroy a base, making teamwork essential (not to mention it would be more fun bombing a base with 7 other B-25's than alone in 1 B-17)

Your probably not going to get 7 B-25 pilots together, in lieu of B-17s.

That and just because there is no downside doesn't mean there is an upside. Since nobody cares about spending bomber perks it wouldn't change game play at all and would just introduce new perk rules that change nothing. So what would be the point? Let me ask this? Does anyone here care about losing bomber perks? Cause I sure dont. Ive augured 234s trying new maneuvers without even bothering to do it in the TA. Cause who cares?

Your on the right track but missing the fix. The only way to make bomber perks mean something is to model perk bombers that players would want to fly, and fly a lot. Introduce the A-26 and B-29 and all of a sudden bomber perks will mean something. But now? They dont mean much. Rules that make you spend them just to spend them wouldn't change anything game play-wise.

So respectfully I disagree.

Theres only one way I would agree with perking the heavies.

Give me credit in heavies for my air to air kills. (not that I get very many)

I don't fly bombers and I think this is a horrible idea.  None of the heavies we have in the game are survivable, perking them will make them even less so.

A set of Ju88s can take out six hangers. That's all of the hangers on a small field. Why not perk it to?

Everyone probably has thousands of bomber perks built up (except for the new players),

"New" players are the majority in this game. The skilled long time vets with thousands of perks on the bank are a minority.
And I tend to say that most buff sorties (by number, not success) are flown by them. With some notable exceptions, the usual progression of a new player is to get out of the buffs at one point and get into fighters.
Bombers are for the most time dead meat on the table in this game. Instead of perking them just to get rid of perk points, better think of some addition that's perk worthy.
Also for those that think gameplay would be improved: Someone who's flying a perk plane is usually flying it in a more cautious way. For bombers that means only 1 thing: Altitude.
If you perk buffs, prepare to see much more of then at altitudes way above 20k. I'm not sure most players would consider that as being improved gameplay. ;)

Spikes before you start that maybe you should duel NKL5 234 vs 234 becuase hes got some moves in it as well.

As for getting a bunch of guys in b25's, you could get perks for dive bombing tanks and air to air kills in a20's or SBD!

How exactly do you win a 234 duel?  By letting him get on your tail so You can have gun solution?   :lol

New Players do tend to go straight for the Fighters. Now that I think more into it, a new player that now wants to start flying bombers wants to take a B-17 because it's his/hers favorite bombers. However, they would have to take medium/light bombers first to get enough perks for it. Some people just wouldn't use bombers then because they don't like taking smaller bombers, and others would have a hard time getting the perks for heavies since the succeesful mission rate of a B-25 (for example) in AHII is lower than that of a Heavy.

Bombers being dead meat on the table however is only true for those who know how to kill them without dieing.  :) I, for one, will never attack a bomber formation alone because I am one of those who do not know how yet. Others can just take out 2-3 formations alone.

Like most everything else in AHII, if you're gonna change/add something, then something else will be affected. This was just an idea I was throwing out there to get flamed or praised.  ;)

I've fought GrEric in 234v234 before, it is much longer than a regular dogfight cause it takes longer to get on the person's 12.
