If you want more smaller groups (hordes) and more spread out game play, you need to make base capture easier not harder.  This forum is full of "brilliant" suggestions that if implemented would bog down play, discourage attacking, make it easier to grief, and generally bring forward a great deal of negativity.  Usually the motivation is "someone took my base" or "someone shot me down" and "this has to stop!".

Eagerly I peruse this forum regularly, cloaked in the mantle of purest optimism, looking for positive concepts being put forward to bring pure fun and more interest to the game.  Paaah.  Again I stalk out saddened at posts that demand more RULES and more OBSTACLES be put in front of those that have enough gumption to get out there and fight. Be they be furballer or stratter, players deserve better support and greater incentive to attack.
I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

Limit the number of gv's and planes per base.  That translates to no more hoards with unlimited assets.
Same goal as, with probably worse results than ENY.
Quote
We don't have unlimited fuel or ammo in the game.  Why should we have unlimited tanks and aircraft?  If we have unlimited tanks and planes why aren't there unlimited field guns to spawn and respawn and again and agian.  You see my point.  :aok
Because the intent is to simulate WWII machines as they were in WWII.  Not WWII itself.  The field guns are only accessories to the real point of the game:  Planes, and ground vehicles to a somewhat lesser degree.

I don't think there's much you can effectively do about hordes.  Except start your own squad and reduce the horde by up to 32 players.

Oh, enough of this. You didn't get shot down because you were in an EW aircraft. You got shot down because you lacked the skills to use said aircraft. People have to stop using ENY as an excuse, and instead use it as an opportunity to up a different plane and better their own skillset.

OK Mr. Skills lets go to the DA or TA and you can only fly ENY planes greater then 28.9 and I can fly anything I want.  Then we'll see if you feel the same after a 10 1v1 fights.  :devil  :uhoh BTW this has to be one of the d...est comments I have ever seen.  If your comment was accurate then why was there a progression of improvements to aircraft.  These improvements were made to better the performance over the opposition so that they could have an advantage.  Better planes mean better chance of survival.  They call it common sense, but why is it so uncommon

Limiting the amount of planes and gvs will spread the game out.  High ENY makes the hoard worse in my opinion.  High eny makes people fly in large groups for protection.  Where they might fly in a perked BnZ plane over to a field alone they will not do it in an I-16 and be able to land.

As far as field guns every other manable aspect of the game is infinite in its ability to respwan (except CV's).  The field gun comment was a bit sarcastic.  I was only trying to make a point about how ridiculous it would be to have the ability to respawn a field gun over and over after the enemy has blown it up.  But we can do that as many times with GV's and Planes as we want to.  My suggestion is still a simulation of WWII and not realistic as no single airfield on any of the fronts had 150 planes and 100 gv's.  Talk about stalling the game. Unlimited assets make for a big stall.  Limiting the assets per field would move the game along a bit quicker without limiting the ability to play the game continuously as we already do.

You'd have no end of finger pointing for "wasting" airfields' resources.
GVs and planes do have a corresponding (to field guns) delay in respawn: travel time to the fight.  Travel time is proportional to the amount of success of either side in a furball. ENY is proportional to the excess resources (pilots) any side has in the arena.

If you don't like the ENY limitation, why not switch sides?

Huh...many EW aircraft are actually superior "duelists" when compared to their LW counterparts. Kind of like comparing the uses of rapiers vs. battle-axes.

Well this thread started out hopeful, but has just turned into another ENY whine. ToeTag, ENY does what your asking, it limits resources. It just happens that some other front has the "good" equipment, while on your front you limited to "older" equipment.

As to how to fix the game, first we have to decide whats "wrong" with the game.

To me the game has fallen to the "win the war the EASIEST way possible" syndrome. Most squads are gear towards over whelming bases with numbers instead of skill. Most join missions because they know they can not do anything on their own so must hide in numbers. Vulches are the easiest way to rack up kills, bombing strat the easiest way to hit a target, AND build rank and so on and so on.

Making strat worth something isn't going to happen. To make it worth something is going limit other players by taking away fuel, ammo and so on. HTC has always been of a mind NOT to limit players any more than they have to. Yes you can say ENY limits people, but 4 P40s on a spit 16 and I think the spit going to be history, so your not really limited. If a factory is destroyed, there is no ammo for that zone. there are no alternative to take up the slack, so you are truly limited.

When it comes to games, it's human nature to want to win, period. people can sugar coat it any way they want, "I only play to have fun", "I'm playing to support my squad", "I don't care about score or rank" BULL PUCKY ! As the game is now people are striving for the wrong thing generating the game play we have now. They go for the easiest way to get their name in lights, higher rank, higher score, or just to look good in front of their squadmates aka "attaboys".

I propose that HTC change the scoring/ranking system to change the way people play the game. Make combat the main game play option. I'm not saying take anything away from the game, just to reward behavior for combat much higher than say "the easy way". A few ideas...

  • 1) Vulch kills don't count toward anything. Create a dome over a field 1000 feet up. Any kill inside this dome is a "vulch" and doesn't count. Land 2 "vulches" NO name in lights. Will it stop vulching, no, but it might lessen it. Most might wait until they enemy gets outside that dome before they go after them, just to get their name in lights.
  • 2) Bombing, hits and points don't count if you drop below 5k, or bail. Will it stop lancstukas, no, but you'll find more people "trying" to make a good run in a bomber, and yes, I'd like to see buff pilots get there name in lights too. 2 hangers, or 10 buildings, or 2 kills, put their names up to.
  • 3) Fighters, multipliers for number imbalanced fights. In a 5 on 1 the "1" player gets double the points for each kill. For the "5", they each can only get .2 of the points for the kill. Will it stop the ganging, no but it might lessen it.

Everyone chases that "carrot" that is hanging out front, just make the carrot lead them toward more combat instead of toward "the easiest way to do things".

In my few years of flying aces high i dont believe i have ever seen a furball in 1 location push past 100+ aircraft including planes from both sides.

I know he is better than to let himself get twisted into a duel. These are forums, you chose to post here and people that are replying have the right to say what they want within reason without backing themselves up because there viewpoint doesn't fit your own.

A 30 ENY plane can beat 5.0 ENY aircraft if you know how to fly them close to there flight performance edge.

Some of these plane realisticaly are:

P38G
P40E
P39D
109G2 & G6
190A8

All 30 ENY or higher aircraft in MA that can hold there own fight against the later war aircraft, its just a matter of making them fight your fight. If they have an al adv they will probably try and BNZ you. In 4 of those 5 cases you could keep your E and just out turn them, eventually I find they will get bored and leave to find an easier kill or dive down and make a mistake and try and turn out of frustration.

All in all that should clear this seemingly ENY rant about why something is better than another when its clearly not.

Challenge stands. You fly any 30 ENY plane you want.  You might get a few kills but you are going to loose many more. For those of use that know what we are doing; 30 eny planes really don't stand a chance when we are in 5 eny planes.  I have killed 5 in one sortie when I was in a stuka.  Thats air to air.  Because they were dumb enough to fight on my level. 2 ponies, 2 190's and 1 109.  I'll never forget that night.  I will also never forget the nights when I fly in a Hurri IIC over to a base by myself and get tangeled in 3 ,4 and 5v1 ACM and be the only plane flying home.  I love how I dont get salutes back when I pass them out to all 3,4 or 5 guys that died trying to turn with me. :rofl  ENY is but a small rant.  The game is what is important.  ENY is like complaing about the radiator leaking when the front end is smashed in.

Well this thread started out hopeful, but has just turned into another ENY whine. ToeTag, ENY does what your asking, it limits resources. It just happens that some other front has the "good" equipment, while on your front you limited to "older" equipment.

So what!  As mentioned before, get your squad or multiple squads to up first and make it strategic instead of the green amoeba.  Secondly if there are a plentiful amount of players on two sides then as mentioned before switch countries and even it out.  More resources for your squad...Mercenaries :devil....... :rock

I'm not discounting that it takes an army to win the war. Its the 5 hour or 5 day stale mates at bases that drag this game and the efforts of HTC through the mud.  I.E. making game play arcade like.  It really wouldn't matter how many are on in a particular country if they can only up 150 / 100 from a base.  Not trying to ruin the fun of the fight just kick it in the arse and move it along.  If you take away the unlimited planes and gv's that will do it.

I think somebody said also...don't make it harder to win / capture make it easier. :aok
I wish I could time reference screen shots from day to day and find that the same fight is going on in the same spot on each front every time that map is put into play.  I'm not referencing TT.  I think there are more map resets due to titanic Tuesday than there are because of wins from one side.  Would love to see that statistic :uhoh :devil :D

Only thing I can see is what they did in AW--only a certain # of planes could be airborne from a given base---to take off from there, you had to wait from one of the plane in the air to 'assume room temperature'...I always liked the concept
