skill level identification
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:14:55 PM »
I think it would help newbs not to get slaughter if you had some sort of skill level identification similar to our BB metal system. If you have over 25 kills your name has a little symbol next to it that stays the same untill you reach 50 kills where it changes. It would go up by 25 untill it reaches 100 where it will go up by 50, untill you reach 200, where you will have a skull and crossbones next to your name.

People who vulch may have a high ammount of kills but not able to fight leading them to vulching, so I don't think it is a problem, however it you can see becoming a problem please let us all know.

I could see how this might get exploited, so HT could set it so you can only see the status of those equal or hight than you, so you can avoid picking a fight with someone who is MUCH better than you. Each player would be given the option to display it as normal or to everyone.

If you see any holes in my idea or have a better one then please tell me.

Sorry no.  This would bring a whole new level of mob-hunting at one end of the scale, and extreme temerity on the other.  Besides the fun is in the surprise! :aok

Ok here it goes. I think it is an awful idea. First off # of kills doesnt equal skill. Second, this would just cause timidness and running.

so you can avoid picking a fight with someone who is MUCH better than you.
This is a horrible reason! I dont know if you meant this as a "benefit" from the idea or a "negative" but its definitely a negative. You get better by fighting people better then you, not running away from them  :rofl

I give this a -5/10 and im tempted to throw in a "you fail" pic.

A good pilot can get 200 kills in 2 days, a bad one in 2 years. Both would end up with the same symbol.
So much for the "skill".

besides that, I don't understand the point of having such a thing for the BBS

But wait... I have more than 50,000 kills now... would that mean 250 skulls & crossed bones next to my profile? If yes, I'm all for it!  :lol

Then this will let you find people better than you.

Ok here it goes. I think it is an awful idea. First off # of kills doesnt equal skill. Second, this would just cause timidness and running.

No, not nessicarily, but if you see someone with 300 kills and you only have 10 then it is a good bet he is better than you. And you learn nothing if the fight lasts six secs.
Might as well be a bullseye
Which is why you can only see the symbol of people equal than or better than you. I can see how people would still get attacked, but it wouldn't be all on the 2 weekers.

Lusche, good point, I hadn't thought of that, maybe it could be reset every tour or something. And it would be in the game; there would be a skull and crossbones next to the "Spit" on your icon.

If this makes it into the game then great, less two-week-wonders attack you and match their 6 hrs flight time against your years of flight time. But if it dosen't affect me all that much, I mostly bomb.

The other side to this is that some unscrupulous vets will just pick on those indicated as newbs or inexperienced for the easy kill. Imagine you're new, first few days of flying, and you rarely stay in the air for more than a couple of minutes because the uber l33t pilitz single you out because of the set of training wheels next to your name. Not much fun, not likely to make you want to keep playing, yet alone subscribe.

We already have this.  If I want to pick on those silly noobs, I look for "Spit," and 9 times out of 10 I get one. :devil
