learn to properly tune it, practice de-tuning then re-tuning it.

Also practice re-stringing it and properly stretching the strings. nothing sounds worse than an out of tune guitar.

To work on dexterity and getting those callouses nothing is better than this simple exercise:
Starting on the low E index finger on fret 1 alternate pick and put down the next finger on fret 2, up to the pinky on the fourth, then go up the 5th string and so on. Once you get to the high E shift your pinky to the fifth fret and go backwards. Pinky down to index ending on the second fret. move down the strings to the low E and shift up with the index now starting on the third fret.

Work your up the fretboard to the 12th, and then work your way back down. Remember to alternate the pick up - down. Once you get fast with that you can try doing it skipping your middle finger. Then skip the ring finger, try all variations.

good luck, have fun!

An electric and an amp may be easier on your fingers, in the short run.

Hope you have fun.

I learned "Hurt" by Johnny Cash today, it just kind of hit me too. Wasn't even listening to the song, nor had listened to it in a while.

Guitar's a fun one, but it's a pain when you don't have calluses. ;)

you will wear your streering wheel out in your car playing steering guitar now. Have fun with it.  Started playing in 87, and still suck.

I was given the same exercise that Mustaine was talking about when I was about 12, it was long monotonous and everyone hated the sound, but now 30 years later I can just pick up a guitar and play what ever I want. I can poke Satan in the eye with the fingers on my left hand too.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

Try string skipping to help your accuracy on your picking hand

This was my first guitar:

I knew I wanted to play, so I went out and bought exactly what I wanted.

Self-taught.... Play my own music...

The best thing for my playing has been trying to work out songs by ear.

Getting a feel for the notes is more important than playing ability, I think.

Hahahaha.

The Ironbird sounds great but it's a bit of a bastid to play.

It's nice and light, feels great but the neck-drop is shocking.
