What is the best bomber in Aces High?

I am trying to get a feel about what this community thinks is the best bomber in AH.  I asked online and got a staggering 2 replies.  Since I don't feel that is an adequate number to get a statistical feel by, I would like to ask again here.  I am not going to include the TBF Avenger because we don't have it yet and therefore do not know how effective it will be.  Yes, I like the bombers and this is hopefully going to be a pro-bomber thread to counter a bit of the recent anti-bomber bent around here.


Which of the bombers in AH do you think is the best and why do you think that bomber is the best?

In no particular order, the choices are:

B-26B

Lancaster MkIII

Ju88A-4

B-17G


Please keep the discussion on topic and limited to these four aircraft.
Please don't respond with "I like "Bomber x" because its easier to kill" types of statements.

P47D-30, it can carry 4 too many rockets when loaded with wing bombs.

 I vote B-26. Although I enjoy the maneuverability of the JU-88. The B-26, not so much for it's decent and versatile bomb load, but because of it's offensive AND defensive firepower available to the pilot.

It depends on the mission. For just flattening large structures, definately the Lanc just because of its bombload. For quick strikes, the B-26 for its good speed and climb rate. For supressing acks, or ground attack, I like the 88 for its flexible bombload. Theres not really anything the B-17 can do that the other 3 can't do better, but it seems a bit more survivable because of its deathstar armament

B-17

They all rock.  Really good choices.  None of them are redundnant.  They've each got something special that separates them from the other three.
Lanc has the most bombload.
B-17 has the best armament and seems to be most resistant to gunfire.
B-26 has the best speed and forward guns.
Ju 88 can dive bomb and carry a great anti-AAA load.  When we get MG FF and torpedoes it will be even more special.

They all have their pros and cons.

As far as the best looking goes ....

I've always been a fan of the B-17 since my days as a munchkin

If I had to choose, I'd say the B-26B because of it's combination of performance with good defensive and offensive firepower.

Sorry to stray from the thread a bit but..
I keep hearing that adding the b-29 would negate all the other bombers, ok so maby not many people wouldnt fly the lanc or 17 as much with the 29 available but i dont feel that is a suffiecent reason to omit what is arguably the plane that wont the pacific war.
I mean look at the fighters
How many 202's and 205's ya see out there.. not many eh? well i guess we should do away with the spit and f-4 because nobody will fly the 202 and 205..No you say?
 If this game was to be made to where there were no planes that were far and above better than others in every we would be stuck with like 5 or 6 fighters.  So why this wierd double stardard?  Plus us bomber "dweebs" have it rough enough enough not ever having escorts and having to go alone most time so at least we should be allowed the best bombers that are available.

Wobble, HiTech said that the B29 would fall within the perk plane system so don't expect to see many.

As for best bomber, well I'll go with the B26.  I nearly always load with 250s and you can use it for ack or to weaken hangars etc.  Plus a couple of 250s will take out any armour and if you keep your speed down then you can dive bomb very accurately!!

I'm with Funked - horses for courses.

Lanc is the best for field or HQ flattening but only if you can climb to +20k inside freindly territory because you really can't defend yourself.

B17 is best for mid alt attacks where you are expecting resistance and you can maybe go in a group.

B26 is THE  V feild killer or field cap where you want fast there and fast back and good manouvreability.

Ju88 - no clue - haven't flown one <makes note to fly 88>

Perk plane system?  

Okay, I think this is the general idea of it!  Well it's going to be incorporated in future releases of AH.  The basics is that you'll receive points for shooting down all planes/bombing fields etc, some scored higher than others and is dependant of which aircraft you are flying too.  For instance if you shoot a F4U-1C down in your 202 the you'll get more points than if you shot a 202 down in a F4U-1C if that makes sense.  Also the more you fly, the more points you accumulate (I think!?!).  I understand that your kill/death ratio has a major factor to play - you'll lose points if you're killed or captured etc.  

So, after gaining loads of points you can go shopping for 'perk planes' which cost a different amount of points depending on which aircraft it is - i.e. some perk planes will cost a lot more than others.  If you keep saving your points you can 'buy' the best plane.  This perk plane will only last as long as you remain alive.

Hope this makes sense and if anyone wants to make it more clearer/more accurate then please reply!
